Yes, I'm inside all day today, trying to switch my summer/winter clothes, work on my photos, eat, watch TV, and naturally check out BWW. I'm not getting much of any of it done, but anyway-
I LOVE BEST IN SHOW! My favorite Christopher Guest film-it's coming on at 4:30, NY time, on one of the cinemax stations.

For Your Consideration is coming on next, and I never saw that one- woowoo!
Jane- I don't get these stations but I LOVE these movies! Parker Posey is hilarious in Best in Show. I did see For Your Consideration but I won't discuss until you've seen it. I also love A Mighty Wind. Have fun!
OK mom-we will discuss it! p.s. I didn't like Mighty Wind. My favorite in Best in Show was Fred Willard.

I didn't care for Mighty Wind or For Your Consideration. I think my favorite is Waiting for Guffman
OMG-For Your Consideration was BRILLIANT! I didn't stop laughing. OMG-especially if you're in the business and have experienced all those scenes!
The stereotypes were perfect. I don't know which film I like best now.

I love Best in Show! When she hurts her knee? Priceless...
Loved Best in Show, Guffman, For Your Consideration and especially A Mighty Wind.
I'm making a list of my favorites, in that order.
1. Guffman
2.Best In Show
3. For Your Consideration
4. Spinal Tap
5.MIghty Wind
Catherine O'Hara says she didn't use any make up to make her face look like it had been lifted. She actually held that expression with her facial muscles for the shoot.
Amazing. She so should have gotten an Oscar nod for that role.
Oh yes, and I laughed out loud when she tried to say Sh-h-h-h-h but couldn't purse her lips because they were pulled back flat to her face.
For Your Consideration wasn't my favorite but I enjoyed it anyway. I loved Fred in Best in Show as well. What I like the best about these movies is how serious they make themselves be when they are being interviewed- like a real documentary or mockumentary. All of these actors are brilliant. I believe a lot of the film is improv too. Glad you enjoyed. I watched the Upside of Anger tonight. I saw part of it last weekend and rented it tonight. Joan Allen is PHENOMENAL!
She is simply the best and she was robbed of Oscar for "For Your Consideration". Her teaching scene near the end of the film so off the wall she should have been awarded for that alone.
edit - was
LOL Jane! That was hysterical!

For Your Consideration was a huge disappointment for me (though I loved O'Hara).
Best in Show is one of my all-time favorites! I love Cookie and Gerry Fleck. I agree re: Fred Willard. He's hilarious in every Guest movie.
FYC was very uneven. O'Hara had early Oscar buzz which went nowhere because the film flopped. Cast too large and script too fragmented.
GUFFMAN is the best and O'Hara deserves Oscar for that 'penile reduction' scene alone; Posey should have been nommed for 'there's always a home for me at the Dairy Queen' scene.
Could GUFFMAN work as a stage musical?
And O'Hara should have been Ebersole's replacement in GREY GARDENS.
I found FYC perfect. I think a lot of it is lost if you're not familiar with the stereotypes they used.
They were right on with the characters-the director, agent, producer, actors, crew members on set, all that food, etc. I could watch it again right now!
Exactly J2!
Oh-to me the funniest thing about it was O'Hara playing the Jewish matriarch. You couldn't find anyone who looks and acts less Jewish if you tried. Brilliant!
The whole idea of a indie-family drama called Home For Purim is in itself funny.
Best in Show is one of my favorite movies.
Parker Posey stole that movie, but Catherine O'Hara was brilliant (!) in Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration (which I wasn't crazy about).
See, I would rank them as...
1. Waiting for Guffman
2. A Mighty Wind
3. Best in Show
4. For Your Consideration
I've never seen one that touched the brilliance of Guffman, and the reason I love A Mighty Wind so much is because it blends the comedy with some really touching Mitch/Mickey moments, and damn those songs are catchy.
I love how we all differ!
I think Parker Posey is the weakest link in all the films, and I didn't like A MIghty Wind because I found it to be quite sad and depressing. Maybe because I have a family member who spent so much time in institutions that I lost all sense of humor about that.
Vive la difference!
You mean you didn't like the "Catheter Song"?
