It's going to take me a little while to fully process the film but it was pure brilliance on every single level and a film I would truly describe as a masterpiece.

Posted: 1/9/11 at 6:16pmI am going to try to see this movie this week. Thanks for the suggestion Jordan!

Posted: 1/9/11 at 6:33pmis it really that good? The trailer for it really just turned me off: "Quirky indie couple falls in love. He has and odd singing voice, and they both do a lot of crying"
Blue Valentine#3
Posted: 1/9/11 at 6:42pmIt's not a quirky indie movie at all. It's a brutal, gut wrenching look at the disintegration of two peoples love for each other.

I will agree-the trailer sucks and will do nothing to interest anyone in the film. They showed the trailer before King's Speech and afterwards the audience was grumbling and laughing.
I know the film is amazing, but they better market it better.

Posted: 1/9/11 at 9:17pmOkay, fair enough. I'm too poor currently to see in in the theatre, so I'll wait for it to be on Netflix.

Posted: 1/9/11 at 9:23pmI thought the same about that ****ty trailer. I can't wait to see it.

I loved that trailer of Ryan singing. Then again, when I saw Lars & The Real Girl, his singing voice in that was way more horrifying. His singing in this trailer was far more endearing.

One of the most devastating, perfectly acted films I've ever seen. I was completely misled by the trailer, but after hearing all the buzz and being a fan of both Gosling and Williams, I bit. And I'm glad I did. My friends and I were rendered speechless when it was over. I still have a difficult time processing how I feel about it.
If you have any doubts about seeing it, go. One of the best of the year. Two of the best performances of this or any year.

Just saw it tonight and LOVED it.
It is very, very hard to watch. And it feels so real you may even have to look away (I did). But it is so worth seeing. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams deserve the Oscars this year. Too bad it won't happen. Their performances are, hands down, two of the best I've ever, ever seen on film. Definitely one of my favorite films of the year.
It's one that's very hard to shake after the credits roll. It'll be with me for days; I can tell.

Posted: 1/15/11 at 11:17amWhile I don't think the film itself is the year's best (I felt it was too long) the performances were definitely the year's best. It is a shame that neither of them will win.

Posted: 1/21/11 at 6:20pmIt's Firth's year, and he'll be a deserving winner, but if I had a vote, it would go to Gosling.

Did you find yourself siding with one character, so to speak? I found I was much more for giving of the flaws in one and not the other.

Posted: 1/22/11 at 9:39amThat's one movie I didnt actually touch myself during, JerseyGirl.

That does make more sense. lol
And I did find myself siding more with her character more.

Posted: 1/22/11 at 11:11amReally? That's so interesting because I sided more with him. I felt like he just adored her and was there for her when he could have walked away. She seemed to fall out of love. Of course, he had major faults, too.

I felt the same way. I felt nothing but contempt for her. Especially the hotel scenes. I can't say I liked the film, but the performances were very good. I might have been able to feel something for her if there wasn't the giant gaping hole of the middle of their relationship, but for what we were allowed to witness, I saw a woman who settled and then just gave up.
Blue Valentine#20
Posted: 1/23/11 at 5:42pmAnd I saw a very immature man who wasn't ready to settle down with a wife and a child and a woman who felt like she was dealing with two children instead of just one.
Blue Valentine#21
Posted: 1/24/11 at 10:46amI believe that she felt like she was dealing with two children, but that was not enough for me to have any sympathy for her. She chose him, she used him, and she resented him for being the person he is. She was an ungrateful heartless manipulative bitch. She was just as immature and not ready to settle down, but it was her choices that put them in the situation. She just refused to accept responsibility and took it out on him.

I can't believe they wanted to give this one an NC-17.
If anything, teens NEED to be seeing this! Stay in school and don't get knocked up, chilluns.

I think it was edited to avoid the NC-17, which will probably be put on BluRay.
I agree pretty much with what Matt said.
