What's your favorite whacky/groovie movie?
BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS - with lines like "You're a groovy boy, I'd like to strap you on sometime" and "This is my happening and it freaks me out!", amongst others, as well as a happening soundtrack, it's just the grooviest!
The Phantom of the Paradise. Forget about that little Webber opus; this is where it's at.
The Owl and The Pussycat
Valley of the Dolls
Andy Worhol's HEAT (thanks AndyHardy)
Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice (thanks AndyHardy)
I hereby change my vote to Valley of the Dolls. How could I forget that? "Get out of my way. I gotta man waitin' on me."
"So you thought you'd come crawlin' back to Broadway. Well, Broadway doesn't go for the booze and the pills."
Helen Lawson: First Lady of the American Theatre
Adding MYRA BRECKINRIDGE to the list.
Glebb, you gotta stop! I haven't thought about Myra Breckinridge in decades. What a cast! Raquel Welch, Mae West, and Rex Reed. That's an unholy triumvirate if I've ever seen one.
Yes, but Myra Breckinridge is the opposite of Valley of the Dolls or Beyond, it's unwatchable!

CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC is the grooviest, man
"you sure get up fast."
I'm adding two more to this campfest. Who Slew Auntie Roo? What's the Matter with Helen? Two big blockbusters starring our own Shelley Winters.
nmartin, I agree with those two. Can't Stop The Music is just jaw-droppingly awful!
I guess THE POSEIDEN ADVENTURE could be considered whacky too.
"There's got to be a morning after..."
How about LOST HORIZON?!
The Poseidon Adventure. All-Star Cast....including Stella Stevens. "You son of a bitch, go help him."
LOL!
Convinceme2, you win the prize. Nothing beats that. Peter Finch, Liv Ullman, Olivia Hussey, and Michael York. The biggest names in movie musicals!!
CLUE!!!
and, of course, TO WONG FOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING! JULIE NEWMAR... love that movie...
Stella Stevens in P.A. "Just panties, what else do I need?"; and "I'm going next, so in case old fat ass gets stuck, I won't be left behind."
Convinceme2, LOLOLOLOL Yazoo City, Mississippi's own Stella Stevens would be so proud that you remember her stunning performance.
I will never forget the Sally Kellerman/Olivia Hussey duet in the library. That is the ultimate in whacky/groovey (and horrific singing).
Do you remember Bobby Van's "big" number Question Me an Answer?
I do.
Do you remember Liv and the kids?
Actually, I love the score to LOST HORIZON. It's a CD I play, often. The only thing that was good about it, was its score. Having said that, it's the complete wrong score for the story. But, it's a good one, nonetheless.
::cturtle breaks out his LOST HORIZON LP and puts it on the turntable::
"on the list
of the things
that i will not miss
most of all is THIS MOVIE ..."
