No. I use PBASE most of the time. (I haven't posted these there yet, though) Too many places to post these days! re: Butterfly Pics

True. I just subscribe to Webshots because there are so many beautiful pro shots constantly being added there that I use them for screen savers! I know that enlarged prints can be purchased but I don't know if the proceeds go to the photographer or to Webshots.

Gotta work fast to shoot those things...

Of course taking a few hundred pictures will guarantee a couple of decent ones. re: Butterfly Pics

You should see the Monarch Butterfly Garden in Pismo Beach, CA.

It's stunning.

Beautiful pics! I love butterflies too. These are from a butterfly farm in Deerfield, Ma. Just down the road from the Yankee Candle factory. We took my mother there for the day.

This guy kept trying to mate with my mother because she inadvertently wore a jacket the exact same color as he was.

The bug zoo is permanent.

The SI has always co-hosted the annual National Orchid show and a few years ago they held it in the A&I building, next to the castle. That year they decided to add to the orchids by putting in a special butterfly exhibit. They had a large enclosed room, full of various orchids and hundreds of different kinds of butterflies. (When you went in you were instructed to be careful where you put your foot down so you didn't accidentally kill one of the displays. Then when you left, you stood in front of a full length mirror and examined your front while a volunteer checked out your back. That was to make sure you didn't accidentally leave with a display on your shoulder.) At any rate, the butterflies were a HUGE success and it was hoped that they would bring them back each year. Unfortunately due to safety concerns, they had to close the A&I building and weren't able to return to that space. Natural History offered space for the orchids the next year but there were no butterflies. As far as I know, this is the first time the butterflies have returned.

OH NO! You don't bug anyone. Anyone who doesn't want to see them doesn't have to look. Nobody forces them. And anyone who does look and then complains isn't worth worrying over. They obviously get enjoyment out of the act of complaining so you shouldn't deprive them!
