I can't believe the show is ending its run tonight. There was so much they could have done with the new President. It angers me somewhat that a show which even when it was not at its best was still better than 90% of the crap on TV is getting cancelled. Nevertheless, they have a lot to wrap up in tonight's finale.
Looking back, no show has provided such intelligent, thought-provoking drama. Who knew policy discussions could be so interesting? No network television drama has, in my opinion, been as well-written, well-crafted, (with the exception of the utterly forgettable season 5) and impeccably acted. The entire cast was never anything short of brilliant, although for me Allison Janney was always the most incredible.
I wonder if we'll get some kind of epilogue. I'd like to know what all these characters did post West Wing. Then again, they'll probably save that for some reunion movie five years from now.

I so wish that this were continuing with the new administration. Jimmy Smits is an amazing actor.

I cannot believe it is over. I am very very disappointed
Of course, we know basics of what is going to happen thanks to the opening this year. But there is a LOT that needs to go on tonight.
You know, I always thought Alan Alda's character was more "presidential" than Smits'. I would have been very interested to see a Vinick administration, because of all the potential storylines that would have brought- the moderate conservative (Vinick) fighting his parties establishment would have been very interesting to see.
Well in about 15 minutes it will start, and already I am upset.

adamgreer, the writing staff agreed with you. Vinick was set to win the election, but then John Spencer died. The writing team figured it would be too great of a blow to the Santos campaigh - to lose your VEEP and the election.
I am really gonna miss this show. I wonder if we'll get a Charlie and Zoe wrap up tonight?
Pass the tissues, please.
"How's Josh?"
"Engaged."
Woohoo. :)
Awesome President and Charlie moment. I wanted a line like "Thank you, Mr. President." "Pretty soon you can call me Dad."
Hooray, he signed it!
My eyes have already gotten watery several times. This is so sad.
I'm CERTAIN I know what that gift is. It has to be the framed "Bartlett for America" napkin....
geesh, i can't even listen right i'm so choked up!
I second the "Bartlett for President" napkin
Dammit, I forgot and missed the first 30 minutes. Can anyone give me an express run down?
In a nutshell....
Everyone is rather melancholy. Bartlett goes back and forth on Toby's pardon, but ultimately signs off on it. Bartlett is running late, and takes one last walk through the White House to thank the staff. CJ and Danny are moving back to CA, Charlie is going to Georgetown law school, and Mallory dropped off a gift for the President from Leo.
Thank you so much. Wow. This is making me all emotional.
gotta admit ... for the first several years, i thought that reporter WAS Alan Alda
Forgot to mention....
They finally showed us which one Ed was and which one Larry was !!
Oh, the gift. (not weepy, I swear) Beautiful way to end the show.
I would love the show to continue with the new administration, but not without my CJ.
I woulda stuck with
"What are you thinking about?"
"What's next."
And it's over....
Very well done. Allison Janney is brilliant. They all are.
Were there any issues they didn't resolve?
Not really. I still would have loved a Zoe / Charlie ending. They had an ending at one point, but then there was the episode where we saw Charlie leaving her room ... I wanted a REAL end. Everything else was nicely wrapped up. This one will go on my "Great Series Finale" list.
It's over. I feel so...empty
Sseven years of not missing a single episode. I just can't believe it is really over.
Remarkable final show
