yeah, dg, there is that unspoken threat, ain't there? nominate bammy...or else.
however, i don't think it would go to full race war status if he doesn't et the nomination. sure there'll be some riots and denver is positively eff you see kay eee deed, but i think it'll blow over except for the tearing the democrats in two. nothing like making a choice with a gun to your head, is there?

me - I honestly hope that one candidate has both the lead in popular vote and delegates. If that is Obama, so be it.
Florida - neither campaigned there, though Barack did run a nationwide ad that hit the state, so there is an argument that it was fair by inactivity. Both were on the ballot, and both were getting plenty of media attention outside the state. The only issue that probably did not get the attention that really matters in Florida would be Cuba.
Michigan, that is a whole different argument. I have a hard time arguing to seat those delegates when the rules said you should take your name off the ballot.

to be clear, the ruels didn't tell them to take their name off. th dnc originally said they wouldnt allow more than 4 pre-feb primaries. however, they did due to court requirements.

"Democrat Barack Obama's big national lead over Hillary Clinton has all but evaporated in the U.S. presidential race, and both Democrats trail Republican John McCain, according a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday."

That ain't the only poll to show McCain leading both. Gallup and Rasmussen also show te same thing. All the pollls show McCain gaining.
However, no one has accounted for this latest Obama speech -- which, I think, will make him a clear front-runner.

Not according to Gallup:
===
New Gallup Poll Daily tracking finds Hillary Clinton with a 49% to 42% lead over Barack Obama in national Democratic voters' presidential nomination preference. . . . The initial indications are that the speech has not halted Clinton's gaining momentum, as she led by a similar margin in Tuesday night's polling as compared to Monday night's polling.

His speech has not gotten a fraction of the attention that Rev Wright's Youtube videos received.

rasmussen's got the general unchanged after one night of post speech polling as well. 6 points over both for johnny mac.
while bammy's speech might well win him the nomination, i don't think it's gonna do him any good in the general.
not when we can make ads that just have wright screaming "god damn america" over and over again with facts like "he baptised obama and his children" and "he performed obama's marriage" and "obama titled a book after his words" and "obama sat and cheered him on for 23 years" and "he says now he never heard anything like this" and "gad damn america, obama?" interspersed between them.
especially when mccain can come out the next day and denounce the ad and ask that it be taken off the airways. it won't of course because it'll be done by some shady 527 whose ownership is completely unaffiliated with the campaign.
have fun, fighting out the nomination, kids. then after you've bloodied him enough, send b. hussein up as the sacrificial lamb against the mighty johnny mac.

Here are the popular vote numbers according to MSNBC. Just so, however you interpret them, we're at least all taking about the same figures.
Without including FLA or MI
Obama - 13,102,493
Clinton - 12,365,109
Obama leads by 737,384 votes or approximately 3%
Including FLA and MI
Obama - 13,671,534
Clinton - 13,550,468
Obama leads by 121,066 votes or less than 1%

I think what we all have to acknowledge is that Hillary was the one to beat and he did. She was/is a powerhouse brand and she brought the heat. Barack of course came out of nowhere and cleaned the floor with her, I still can't believe he's kept the pace and surpassed her lead. It's astounding, and not only did he take her votes he brought them in. In some cases more people voted in the primaries than in previous general elections.
He can certainly win against McCain.

Well, Clinton may have had a strong lead, but her negatives were so high, it is not that surprising that she was challenged.
People are looking for a change. And the media has a hate/hate relationship with Clinton (in part due to her relations and reactions to members of the media).
Obama has run a good campaign. Many people wanted an option other than Hillary, and he have given them a very good one.
Mejust - the one thing that concerns me is that if there are complaints at the level of dirt flung by the Clinton campaign, there will be wails of pain and stress when you see what the GOP will throw at Obama. And like it or not, some of that crap sticks, even if it is unfair and untrue.
I am not sure Obama can beat McCain - I sure hope he can.

"msnbc rarely updates their popular vote numbers."
That's not correct. MSNBC uses a new computerized updating system that "updates the figures every five minutes."

"there will be wails of pain and stress when you see what the GOP will throw at Obama. And like it or not, some of that crap sticks, even if it is unfair and untrue. "
Hillary Clinton has already done all of this dirty work. Her campaign has thrown EVERYTHING and ANYTHING she could find at him. That NAFTA business is from the Rove playbook.
Guess what? He still gets 15,000 people to see him in an arena and sign up to vote.
I really have more confidence in the American people than this mudslinging nonsense for the general election. Barack does things much differently. Like instead of fully disowning this preacher, he told America "guess what, he's part of me. You know exactly what i'm talking about." And so we do and so it's new politics. He took the uncomfortable, if not shaky higher ground here.
If all else fails, we can just use the Bush playbook on McCain. McCain has quite a checkered past, and his own party despises him.
