Hey! Another soprano, here... =D
My lowest comfortable note is middle C (I can go lower, though) and my highest right now is a high D. My teacher says I'm a "potential" lyric.
I don't have many dream roles... either Maria or Anita in West Side Story, and Marguerite in The Scarlet Pimpernel. And Fanny Brice in Funny Girl... None of which except Maria would fit my voice. lol (not to mention I can't dance to save my life)
I have no belt whatsoever, which is dissapointing, because I'm a huge Judy Garland fan...
I graduated from high-school last year, and now I'm working full time (at a recording studio! woo-hoo! heh, stuffing CD cases is so educational) so I can fund a summer at Tanglewood... if they except me... I'm so nervous!!
To answer some of the questions from a few pages back in this thread... some of my favorite sopranos are Leontyne Price, Dawn Upshaw, Kathleen Battle and Jessye Norman.
I wanted to become a singer because of Sandi Patty! She's an "old-school" "pop" soprano... but she's done a few classical things and recorded a lot of musical theatre stuff. Wow, that voice... I listened to her "Morning Like This" album on cassette until I wore it out! lol
If anybody wants to hear me sing, I've put all four songs from my Christmas CD onto my myspace:
www.myspace.com/chantelleconstable
Usually, I hate hearing myself sing, but I'm really proud of that CD. lol. Especially since I brought all the components together myself. Scheduled the accompanist, booked the studio...
Anyway! Long introduction, there. =D

Reviving the thread!
It's not really music related, but I got on the National Honors Society! Yay! I'm going at least SOMEWHERE for college!
Speaking of which, has anyone heard about where they're going?

Posted: 3/23/07 at 10:42pmI am both a soprano and an alto. My highest note is a e# above high c. And my lowest note is an A 2 octaves below middle C. I am currently a Sophmore in Highschool and Am 15. I thought this would be a fun thread to join.

Soprano love! :)
My Range: C below middle C, E/F above high C. (about 3 1/2 octaves)
I also belt, even though soprano will always be my forte.
I just finished doing Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street. And I've done Maria in West Side Story, Cosette in Les Miserables, Amahl in Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls to name some soprano roles.
I really want to play Johanna in Sweeney Todd, Hope in Urinetown, any of the sisters in Little Women, Eponine and Fantine in Les Miserables, and oh so many others.

Anyone here switch fachs?
Two old teachers told me I was a dramatic. Current teacher thinks I'm probably just a very big, very loud lyric.

I've gotten denied from Northwestern, Manhattan School of Music, and U of M.
But I've gotten accepted at DePaul and Roosevelt!
So I'll be headed to Chicago next year to be a Blue Demon at DePaul! I couldn't be happier....

school of music updates
Accepted at
Northwetsern
Oklahoma City university
Unoversity of Miami
Florida Sate University
Boston University
and waiting for UF and NYU(for music) right now. For those of you tat might know..if money wasnt an option which school would be best?
I would consider factors such if vocal majors can take thetare classes or get involved in the musicla theatre program.

Everyone I know who goes to BU abslotely loves it. And Boston's a great city!
On the accepted thread though, you seemed really excited about OCU, so I think you have to follow your instincts about which would be the best fit for you. You have some really good schools to choose from
#238re: Calling all Lyrics! (Sopranos, that is)
Posted: 4/3/07 at 2:20pmIts too hard to choose!! o_O Good things about each school. i guess I'll have to play detective for a month in order to see which ones right for me.

You're all weeners and I'm jealous of you. I wish I had my head on straight when I was in high school and knew I wanted to study voice. But nooooo I didn't decide I wanted to study voice till after I had my worthless BA in English...
Please have a blast and work hard, for me, and all the other 20-somethings that are getting into this stuff later in life!

and not to mention chicago is going to be party city.

Apparetnly, 52 (!) sopranos tried out for Tanglewood, the most they've ever had. my friend who is crazy talented, and is just SO intelligent about music and composition and all that was rejected as well. Therefore, it's not so indicative of talent as much as they just had an unusually large amount try out.
And tell your parents, if you don't feel bad for yourself, they won't (or shouldn't) either.
