Hey all,
Steming from the voice part thread, I've decided to make one justfor lyric Sopranos! (But all sopranos are welcome)
of course, we will try to keep the competetivness (sp) to a minimum.
SO, I'll start,
I'm classically trained with a range up to G above high C, and I've always been a soprano. my dream role would be anything by Puccini and Violetta in Traviata.

I'm trained up to a high C, aiming for a high E. I'm not much of a belter at all. I was a mezzo up until last year. My dream roles are Cosette in Les Mis, Clara in The Light in the Piazza and Musetta in La Boheme.

Classically trained dramatic Soprano, and can hit up to an high F.
I hope to play Zerlina in Don Giovanni... and just be in every opera I can be in, and of course play Christine in Phantom (which obviously isn't an opera)
Opera owns my soul.

Soprano here! Don't know which individualized fach I will end up in, but right now I'm just labeling myself a bigger voiced lyric.
Dream roles include exactly what hannahshule said, plus my musical theatre dream roles of Clara (Piazza), Johanna (Sweeney), and Julie Jordan (Carousel).

LilMiz- I'm singing some of Zerlina's arias right now with my teacher (Batti, Batti and Vedrai Carino). She's a fun character.

Yet another mostly-classically trained Soprano joins the club!!
Um... Lets see last I checked I was comfortably at a high B (but I haven't been singing up there for a month now, as my current show (The Rocky Horror Show) calls for my belting voice)... I too just discovered my belting voice and it's been interesting trying to stretch that out.
My dream roles: Clara in The Light in the Piazza, Christine in Phantom of the Opera (longtime dream since I was about 3), Joanna in Sweeney Todd... and then a bunch of low belting roles (i.e. Sally Bowles in Cabaret)

Posted: 10/10/06 at 3:33amWell, I can sing up to the F above high C, but whats fun is I can jump up to the B above that. Nothing inbetween the F and the B, though. God knows I've tried!

Hannah, me also. Vedrai, got me honors, and it's the first Operatic aria I've learned. Zerlina's songs just fit my voice beautifully.
I'm also in love with Tartuffe (Fair, Robin) is a sweet song.

Man, hooray for lyric sopranos...
Some people can belt and shake the house but we can do that and also float in the rafters... I'd like to see a belter do that.
HA!

*waves* I've never really had training on my voice besides chorus teachers helping me, but I'm a high soprano!
I can (most of the time, if I'm warmed up enough) hit the high C, pretty powerfully too.
I don't have much of a belt, but I have been trying to develop my lower range lately. I used to not be able to get much lower than middle C, but now I can comfortably get to a low A and sometimes G.
My dream roles are (like everyone) Christine & Carlotta from Phantom, Cosette from Les Miz, and Clara from Piazza.

I used to be a broadway girl (thus, the reason I joined these boards) but now, I'm all opera and classical! I was never the belter, and always seemed to have an operatic quality to my voice, so I'm enjoying it much more.
Lilmiz- Tartuffe s fun! Zerlina's great to start out with, because it's not too heavy, but still challenging as an aria. I'm looking to do "O Mio Babbino Caro" next.

Posted: 10/12/06 at 4:56pmI'm doing "O mio babbino caro" too! It's kind of a strange turnaround with that opera because in May/June, when everyone thought I was a mezzo, I actually played the mezzo role (Ciesca) in Schicchi. Now, I'm singing Lauretta!

Posted: 10/13/06 at 1:20amMy favorite opera song that I am currently working on is "The Black Swan" from The Medium. It's in english, yes, but it is truly beautiful and haunting and if you want a challenge, I reccomend it highly.

Posted: 10/13/06 at 12:24pmI did that song for NYSSMA last year! I love it. The Medium has beautiful music.

I will definately ask my teacher about it!
(By any chance, are you using the "Arias for Soprano" and such? LOVE THEM!)

^^^YES! I love Pieta Signore, Sebben Crudele and O Del Mio Dolce Ardor (or something). Excellent collection, and perfect for competitions or recitals.

Posted: 10/13/06 at 5:41pmO Del Mio Dolce Ardor is a gorgeous song. I almost did it last year for NYSSMA...then just didn't. But I did use a piece from the book for level 5 NYSSMA-Tu Lo Sai. Gorgeous song.

I too love O Del Mio Dolce Ardor, but man oh man do I have a hard time with it for some reason... I'm probably going to skip it for the Vocal Performance college auditions, just because I don't want to go in there and mess it up.
And yes, The Medium is fantastic!!! The Black Swan is an awesome song for both singing in the shower and performing...

I have a REALLY wide range I'm a low D up to a high C... I really want to be the Lady of the Lkae in Spamalot, Fantine in Les Miserables, Cassie in A Chorus Line, or any job I can get as long as I make it to Broadway!

Posted: 10/14/06 at 11:59pm"O del mio dolce ardor" is my absolute favorite of the Italian art songs that I've done. It just fits my voice like a glove and it'll probably end up being on my college audition rep, though I'm supposed to be looking at "Vergin tutt'amor" this week. (Anyone done this one yet? Opinions?)
