Not so much a fan of that one.
O Del Mio fits my range, but I concentrate so hard on rhythm that I get a little behind... no good!
Don't you hate when vocal coaches throw songs at you last minute??? *STRESS*
That's one of the reasons I left my old vocal coach. One time, about ten days before a NATS competition, he had me learn Comme Raggio di Sol, which is lovely, but to get into performance shape in ten days is craziness!

24 Italian Songs and Arias... is the vocal bible.
I've learned every song in that book. My favorites being 'O del mio' and 'Il mio bel foco'. I have the hardest time with the text on Pieta, Signore for some odd reason.
I have no real love for the purple Collection of Soprano Songs... or whatever it is.
The Prima Donna's Album is my new favorite posession.
Hey... if you want to hear me sing... which I'm sure you all do... check out my music myspace. It's how I get my recordings to my friends who don't live around here.

That's really beautiful LilMiz! You have great legatto, and such a clear tone!
Are you playing the piano as well?
I like Il Mio bel foco too, but Pieta's my big thing from that book right now.

thanks. :)
no, the recordings are from the Northwestern High School Music Institute that I attended this summer. The two that played are some amazing accompianists

The book of 24 Italian Songs and Arias is DEFINITELY the vocal bible. Nina has become my trademark song, and I really love O Cessate and Amarilli.
i'm thinking of going to the Northwestern Summer Music institute this summer. How was it?

It was the... best experience of my life. I've grown into so much more than just a singer, I'm a serious musician now. I met my best friends there, and it has definitley changed my life.
I wouldn't go any sooner than the summer after your junior year. It has seriously changed me, some good some bad. I met my best friend, but now I can't be near her because she lives in Illinois and I in Michigan, and it's the worst feeling ever. To grow so close to a group of people in five weeks, and then being torn away from there. Yes it was soooo educational... but if you aren't ready to deal with the emotional changes that will be brought on by it, I wouldn't suggest it.
But it's the best thing that's ever happened to me. While the rest of my senior class here is dreading graduation, I can't wait, I know what life is going to be out there for me now... and i know how much is waiting for me.
Like I said though... one HELL of an emotional roller coaster.
Yeah, I'm a junior now, so I've really started looking for some top vocal programs over the summer. i will certainly look into it, I'm glad you had such a good experience.
just watched Angela Gheorghiu's (my fave soprano) DVD of La Traviata! Violetta's definately my dream role to end all dream roles!
bumping the lyric love!

I just registered for the classicalsinger.com High School Vocal Competition. My voice teacher just told me about it today. I'm going to the one at the University of Tennessee on February 3rd. It sounds like an AMAZING competition.
Can you send me the link for that?

I actually just started classical lessons last fall, so I've been studying for only a little more than a year, but I'm loving it! The 24 Italian Songs and Arias is really amazing (I sang "Tu Lo Sai" at my studio recital last year)!
LilMiz, you sound great! :0) How long have you been studying?

Well I've been taking lessons since I was eight. But it was more like, warming up, singings songs I already knew from a disney book, and learning to write songs till I was about ten. Then I had a couple of years of break due to not being able to find a teacher, then around 12 I found one that only taught me church music, but then introduced me to the 24 Italian Songs and Arias.
So classical training for about seven years.
I've been doing choral singing for awhile, but I also just started studying privately... I think it's been almost a year now? (I don't know... time goes so fast). It's definitely been a life changing experience.
Anyone else notice how quickly private lessons increase your confidence in performing in front of others? It's awesome.
Yes! Before I started taking lessons, I wouldn't have been caught dead singing in front of anyone. But once you're forced to sing in front of a semi-stranger at least once a week, the confident shoots WAY up.
And the reaction is always much more positive, you wonder why you didn't sing in front of people all the time before?
Excellent confidence booster, I agree!
The mezzo thread is beating us! No!
Okay, so I had a voice lesson today. My teacher couldn't play The Light in the Piazza, which is understandable, OR Come to My Garden, which even I can play. Next week we're working on Deh Vieni Non Tardar. And the school music teacher (the voice lessons are part of a school program) took a video of me singing for the school video. I felt special.
Ooh! Fun!
Hey, my teacher can't play Without You from My Fair Lady. Come on, now.
I've never tried that one. But Come to my Garden is really relatively simple. The beginning is all rolled chords.
