Took my 88 year old Dad to the orthopedist for his arthritic knees today. Asked him what do you want for lunch when we finally got out.
"Get me some Thai soup and some sushi." Pretty funny.

Greetings from Scranton, PA.
Business trip...
And I realize I'm not that far from NYC.
Oh to have the means and the money to be back in the city these next two days!`

Beacs! Scranton?
Someone just sent this to me - thought it was pretty cute!
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE
1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they
carried us.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored
lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we
rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took
hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE
actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but
we weren't overweight because
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back
when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down
the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the
bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Play stations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no
99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell
phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat
rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't
had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They
actually sided with the law!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers
and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned
HOW TO
DEAL WITH IT ALL!
And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

Cheeze - I try very hard to live my life in the here-and-now, for looking back doesn't usually get you anywhere. BUT, with each day that goes by, and more and more the horrors of what we have done to our world become clearer, it's almost impossible not to glance back and sigh wistfully - or even wishfully.
It's so very hard to believe that in so few years things have spiraled so completely out of control.
That's one of the main reasons I love the opportunity to encounter and become familiar with people like Zeppy and Kel. There are STILL young people who continue to move forward and strive for what is right and good in all of us - I hope they win the race.

cheeze, good choice. DG is a wonderful hugger.

Ah, yes - the May NYC trip. During Fleet Week. By accident.
Yes, yes, I know you didn't know about it. But it's still fun to tease you about it!

Oh yes - sometimes it's all a bit much. I am not sure who's Pollyanna gene I ended up with, cause it was certainly not my parents. Of course I upset some people on the board today by saying "Happy Earthquake Day". So what the hell do I know?!
And I agree with the hug Rath!
I just saw the Fleet Week episode of Sex and the City the other night! I am ALL prepared.

Cheeze - but are they prepared for you?
Broadway Legend Joined: 11/15/05
They better not be - or all that training from Beacs will have been in vain!
Rath - I can't wait for Coney Island baby!

Hey now - I was sitting here having an Espresso Martini - and I got to thinkin' - where the heck is Mominator? Do we need a search party?
Wasn't she around yesterday?
I've been offline since around 3:15ish. Thought I'd have a page or two to read of the Celeb thread. I was wrong.

How could you miss the thread she started announcing her return?
Mmmm, espresso martini...

GH - Hopefully it's not come to that!
It could be Girly - I am not always around, I just remembered the last time I saw her was the Welcome back thread. Thanks!
Mom - I am thinking about you!
Espresso martini...
What a delightful thought!

It's not too bad - new recipe for me, and I think it's a keeper!
Good Evening all - Haven't had much time around the board lately. First work, then cooking dinner, funeral home visit to support friend whose father died, coffee with other friend, and stopping by my daughter's house to wish grandson a happy 10th birthday and watching American Idol at the same time. Sounds like everyone has been having a good day and making plans for the weekend already. My weekend plans are pretty boring but that's okay since I could use some downtime.
Hi addict. I'm sorry about your friend - I'm sure they appreciated your support!
Your grandson's 10th birthday sounds like a FUN event!
...I was just so delighted to see the thread about the Shauna Hicks show this weekend. She was a roommate many, many years ago! Her brother and I were good friends in college, and it was such fun to watch her career grow and take off. I'll NEVER forget her starring on Broadway in 'Blood Brothers' with the Cassidy Brothers! It was such fun, and I was so proud of her.
