I'll avoid degenerating into a discussion of how good I am on top
So, my suggestion is posting on the 20th - whoever starts the thread just use "BOOK - I, Lucifer" and let the posting begin!
Gotta run - the teacher is home, and the champagne must be poured! Maybe I'll check in later to see what's happened
I'm BAAAAACK!
There was NO traffic. Sixth Avenue was virtually empty, and they had special bus lanes for the conventioneers...I got a cab right away and flew home.
When I got home the doorman told me that there was no mail delivery because the post office for my area had some kind of a bomb scare. That sucks! (Not about my mail, but about the scare...)
We were also told that tomorrow at 4pm a massive rally is planned on our block at work - to protest Fox News. Now really - that's just stupid! So, the office is closing at 2. Very disruptive.
I had already planned to work a half day tomorrow for personal reasons, and to be out of town for the rest of the week - I guess I'm glad to be going.
I, for one, don't mind the Republican National Convention in New York, but all of the protests are becoming disruptive.
anyway - back to the fun stuff....

Do you remember how we danced that night away
Two lovers playing scenes from some romantic play
September morning still can make me feel that way
Actually - there are lots of songs about September, aren't there?...
Anyway - 'Night my friends.
See you soon.

Try to Remember, that kind of September . . .
Well, I've ordered my copy of I, Lucifer. So, off we go!
I'll tell you my thoughts on this. These boards have been an excellent opportunity for me to really explore the use of the written word as my only means of communication. All my life I've been interested in how human beings realte to one another, and for me personally, it's always depended greatly on tools like eye contact, voice inflection and gestures. Since I'm wanting to try and get some writing published, this has been a great opportunity to hone my skills of simply getting my point across.
In that time, though, I've found I really respond to some of the personalities that present themselves here. That intrigues me, as I see this becoming more and more how people meet, interact and live out relationships. I feel that doing this 'book club thing' will give those of us who have bonded an opportunity to see just how the interchange can develop. The sharing of thoughts, ideas and emotions is what binds us as humans, and the more we can use this means as a tool, the better it will be for us as time marches forward.
Just because we're 'adults' doesn't mean we can't learn and adapt to the developing world around us
I'm looking forward to sharing my own thoughts with you, and also learning more about how you respond to your own existences by reading and understanding your own expressions.
Viva la future!
hey guys! Wow, I had a lot to catch up on...
but man, this book club sounds awesome! I think I might have to pass on the first book only because I'm simultaneously reading three books right now (I multi-task...the price of having read for almost my entire life and getting a literature degree) and I have to dedicate myself to finishing them before I pick up another dang book...but I will read I, Lucifer...and, in the meantime, I'm going to INSIST that you guys put some of my favorite books into the book club discussion!
Nina, Boooooobs, I will make you love my type of book.

bwaysinger - we all discussed that one of the important elements of the 'club' would be diversity of reading material - so bring it on! And if you're going to read Lucifer anyway, you might as well comment on it - it's only a quick read - we decided it would be good to 'ease' into this process to get our feeling for how it would work.
well, the problem is whether or not I will finish the other three in time to finish Lucifer.
I hope we attempt a lot of different genres, too. I mean, I just finished reading Empire Falls (which is GREAT! Won the Pulitzer) and am now co-reading (hehe) Good Omens, which is a very funny book in the style of Douglas Adams (supernatural comedy).

"This book is certainly one that can adapt and appeal to people specifically looking for a book focusing on human relations and behavior."
bwaysinger - just read this in the comments section of Amazon for Empire Falls - my interest is piqued! As a literature major, we're going to depend on you to broaden our horizons
oh, Dgrant. But I'm such a bad literary major. The whole time I would be reading London (by the way, I VASTLY prefer the Sea Wolf to Call of the Wild), I'd have some crappy, trashy book based on the Star Wars universe in my bag.
But I do indeed love reading some early American guys, specificially Nathaniel Hawthorne.
Edit: I believe Empire Falls is being made into a film. It DEFINITELY would translate well (think Cider House) provided they're true to the very interesting characters.

bway - if you're a literary major who reads, then you're not a 'bad' literary major If Star Wars mythology is based on the works of Joseph Campbell, there might be more to them than meets the eye.
Recommend from your heart! That way, we get to know more about how you see the world, and you get to substantiate your view at the same time!
