In Catholic school we weren't allowed to write with a pen until our penmanship was perfect. Then we had to use a fountain pen...I still have a lump in my finger from those pens and pressing down on the paper.

Fashion statements
Gator shirts,
Plaid skirts with a gold kilt pin,
Argyle socks,
Faire Isle sweaters,
Bermuda bags, and of course the "Annie Hall" look.
and Spirographs were so much fun! Did anyone else have a Super Spirograph? I seem to remember seeing them at like Wallyworld or Toys-R-Us.

fountain pens! I would have had ink everywhere...
Remember those big, fat red pencils from kindergarten/1st grade?
And, getting new school supplies every year!
New pens and pencils and erasers.
A compass - with a sharp point and a stubby little pencil.
Notebooks.
Making covers for text books out of brown paper bags.

Remember getting your desk all organized for parents 'back to school' night...and my parents would always leave me a little note to find and read the next day.

what a fab thread!!!
since my criteria for a fabulous thread is that my name or a movie I worked on is in the title, I hadn't looked inside!!
before I read 70 pages, has anyone mentioned eating Yodel's one layer at a time?

Nooooo!
Yodels were mentioned - but not by eating them one layer at a time. Good one!
(and when you have a spare day or two...go back and read. it's very entertaining!)

I mentioned the Drakes cakes earlier, Yodels, Ring Dings, etc. I just assumed that everyoen ate them taht way and the Ring Dings were peeled of the chocolate layer first.
The Super Spirograph was wonderful. It kept me occupied for hours at a time. I palstered my walls with groovy Spirograph designs and posters of David Cassidy.
I also loved painting everything I owned with Day-Glo paint and then turning on the black light.
Did anyone mention Laugh In, The Tom Jones Show and The Flip Wilson Show?

Nina,
point for point, every word of your last post completely summed up my childhood
SPIROGRAPH!!!! I was OBSESSED!!!!!
even though the pins never stayed in good, therefore ruining my art with horrible sudden pen swooshes
now I am having a sense memory and want to crawl under my desk and cry

Marc, it's okay. That used to happen to me too but I was too embarrassed to mention it on this thread. I was a spirograph retard.

That's right, the Spirograph pins didn't stay. That happened to me all the time but, in my adult persepctive looking back, it always worked perfectly. Thanks Marc for killing a memory I had built into something wonderful by reminding me of the reality.
I just want to believe that Easy Bake Oven treats were delicious, Spirograph always worked, Silly Putty never got filthy from newspaper comics ink, The Partidges sang and played the instruments themselves and Franco American canned macaroni and cheese was a delicacy.
