Oh, I would always get motion-sick if I had to sit in a rear-facing seat...
BUT - you can't beat those old wagons for tailgate parties!

We had a burgundy Mercury Marquis with white upholstery. Great move by my folks with 2 kids.
The next car that made an impact was a Cordoba. Ricardo Montalban must have made an impact with my dad

My favorite book as a child !!! I made my Mom read it over and over until I knew it by heart and pretended to be able to read the words myself.

gosh - bedtime memories just came flooding back...
When I was really little - I had a white wicker headboard - with all the swirls (just about every girl I knew had them).
My bedside lamp was a wooden circus-lamp with a pink and white striped shade.
Mom would come in to kiss me goodnight - and afer story time we had a little tradition where she would sing me a song that I thought had such silly words and would make me laugh -
Meet me in Saint Louis, Louis
Meet me at the fair.
Don't tell me the lights are shining
Any place but there.
We will dance the hootchie-kootchie
You will be my tootsie-wootsie
If you will meet me in Saint Louis, Louis
Meet me at the fair!
I LOVED when she sang that to me - in a sort-of lullaby voice.
Ok, I have to go cry now...be back later.

Posted: 8/3/04 at 12:31pm*Eyes welling up here too*...my Mother always sang to calm us during thunder storms..."Pennies from Heaven". Till this day when we have thunder storms I hear her voice singing it in my ear and I smile. "So when you hear it thunder..don't run under a tree, they'll be pennies from Heaven for you and me."

Boobs - you are making me CRY!
(people in the office are looking at me!)
Thank goodness for the good memories!
Be back after lunch. I'm suddenly in the mood for a glass of milk and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich...

My mother use to tell me a version of "The 3 Little Pigs" that the pigs kept on out witting the wolf. They would make a date to go apple picking.. (then show up an hour earlier) or go to the fair.. she would get very silly ( I think it was accumulated fatigue)

Enjoy lunch NYadgal..I don't mean to make you cry.
I have to post all the words to "Pennies From Heaven" because now it's going through my head:
Ev'ry time it rains, it rains pennies from heaven
Don'tcha know each cloud contains pennies from heaven?
(You'll find your fortune fallin' all over town)
(Be sure that your umbrella)
Is upside down
Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers
If you want the things you love, you must have showers
(So when you hear it thunder) Don't run under a tree
There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me

Posted: 8/3/04 at 12:48pmThis story would just go on and on.. she'd pretend she was the wolf chasing after the piggies, it was so funny. Thanks to whom ever brought up bedtime stories. My mom passed away when I was 10, so anything that helps spark memories (since I have few) is a great thing!

Posted: 8/3/04 at 12:51pmThat's sad Mom that you lost your Mom so early. It's nice to have those special memories to hold on to. I guess it's true that no one can take our memories away from us.
