I really like this one. As usual Spidey, you sound AMAZING. This is one of my favorites by U2.
Your higher stuff was actually really good. It made me smile (which is a rare thing). I just loved it babe, you sound amazing!

See...your audience loves it.
Your vocals are great, but I kind of agree with Stephen about you just singing it. But I think your voice is strong enough that you can get away with it.
And who am I to throw stones this week anyway?
Up now! Spidey does "Not While I'm Around" from Sweeney Todd!
I must say that I was a bit disappointed that the song cut off before the big "SIIINNNNNNGGGGG/You're the reason why the opera's in me" bit. I'd been looking forward to hearing what you'd do with that since you switched to SYCMIOYO.
Overall though, I though it was really good. Maybe lacking a bit in the emotional dept, as Pat suggested, but still really strong vocally.
Also really enjoyed Kitz's 2nd two efforts. Beautiful Day, not so much, but the other two more than made up for it.
Kitz - that is your last allowed bitch.
Spidey - I agree - sounds beautiful, but empty.
Yeah, the ending would have helped a lot as it really is the core of the song.
Spidey, you sound AMAZING.
DJ, I love you to no end. And I hope you know that. And I KNOW how hard a capella Sondheim is. But this just doesn't do it for me.
Considering how hard a time you had picking a song and finding time to record, you did well. But this is far far FAR below what I think you are capable of. It just wasn't a good song for your voice.
You could still sing the phonebook to me, and I'd be happy
Not While I’m Around:
Again, it is hard to sing Sondheim acapella and I totally get that. It had it’s moments. Vocally it was good, not great. I like the falsetto a lot and on a personal note, I am envious of it.
I am not a huge fan of this song choice though. One of the best things that you have going for you is that you have a very mature voice without sounding old. There is a since of wisdom or knowledge in your voice that is comforting. The problem in regards to this song is that those aren’t good traits for singing this particular song/character. Oddly, I was suggesting Giants in the Sky which may have been a similar problem for you as well. I just don’t think it was a great match for your vocal tone and quality.
One weakness here is that Sondheim requires you to really get into the character a lot. As I said on your U2 song, a huge aspect is knowing what you are saying. This is even more important in a this song because of how many layers the character of Tobias has. The switching tones in his music often times are very specific for the characterization and meaning of a song. Just like U2, you started so big and bold that the song didn’t have anywhere to go. I think it should start out very sweet and build it to this revelation that Toby would actually kill for Mrs. Lovett. I didn’t get that here at all.
Of course, it is a singing competition and not an acting competition, but with Sondheim it’s hard to review one without including the other.

I didn't know Spidey was doing this until Tiff just announced it. I'm a little disappointed, though. I thought it was pitchy. But those high notes, gah. Love 'em.
I agree with Kitz about the phonebook, too.
I have never heard Sweeny before so I will have nothing to compared it to.
That said, I didn't really like it. It wasn't completely awful but I thought it shoulda be a lot better. So I was just eh about it.
Spidey's final song tonight - Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode"! (Those listeners who wanted to get something from the '50s...happy now?)

Gooo, Spidey, go, go, go! Oooooh, oooh, Spidey be good.
That was hot, Spidey. I am ALL. ABOUT. the 50's music. Loved it!

Wow, I'm so disappointed in NWIA. I was thrilled to see this on your list, as I love it and am a big fan of your voice.
However, doing it without a track didn't work at all - you changed keys with practically every line. This is not the song to sing a cappella - it's way too difficult.
Kerrie's first song tonight! "One" by U2!

Oh, you scared me when it said Giants in the Sky! Glaf it's still NWIA.
I'm just catching up here with Kitzy's. Sounds lovely, darling.
I like Johnny B goode. It was fun and 50s which is great. I loved the tonight to death.
But a recurring problem tonight is that you are starting loud and cant really go anywhere with it. Try starting at 1/2- 3/4 volume (depending on song) and make it go somewhere!
But I am another who would listen to you sing the phonebook
Now THAT'S more like it. This song is very special to me (my dad used to sing it to my little brother when we were little cause his name is Johnny), and you did well.
Makes me want to go watch Back to Future again...
Johnny B Goode
This one is right in your wheelhouse. It wasn't great for me, but these are the kind of songs that you should be doin - the up tempo songs where you have fun.
It's a bit of 5 note song and doesn't show your range off as well as some of the others, but it's a good fun song and it's much more reflective of your strengths.
Better than the other two by far, but this is a bad week to put up mediocre stuff.

I didn't think this was anything special - I've heard so much better from you - I'm disappointed in tonight's entries, spidey.
Hey, I get to announce the FINAL THEMES tonight!
Kerrie, you are amazing and increadible.
When the competition is over, I really want you to record some Fiona for me. And some Gwen. You have this great little vibratto that would sound good on either of their songs.
