Congress loses its Boehner

Are we actually living in a world where JOHN BOEHNER is too far to the left for the Republican Party???

The conservative wing of the GOP was determined to get Boehner out--and they want to get McConnell out of the Senate too. They want the GOP to coalesce around a conservative candidate and shut the "mainstream Republicans" (Republicans they consider too moderate) out of the picture.

They don't see coalescing around a moderate an option. In their minds, the moderates must capitulate to the conservatives.

Ted Cruz expressed their big worry today at the "Value Voters Summit":

“Washington wants us divided. Washington wants conservatives splintered,”Cruz said Friday. “They want a chunk of evangelicals over here, a chunk of conservatives over here, a chunk of libertarians over here, a chunk of tea party folks over here. That’s how, if we are splintered, that a moderate establishment candidate runs up the middle with 23 percent of the vote, steals the nomination, and then loses to Hillary Clinton in the general election.”

As long as we Democrats nominate Clinton, we win. if we nominate Bernie, they can beat us.

True dat, PJ. The GOP has made it perfectly clear that it's all about winning. And that party will cull the herd as often as it takes to position GOP candidates for victory. It's just that cut and dried.

The prospect of the Democrats occupying the White House for at least 12 years running makes Ted Cruz's head explode. Dude's got a bad case of POTUS-envy. I'm anxious to see the series of cage matches between Marco Rubio and him starting next week in the wake of the gov't shutdown. What I find most disturbing about the timing of the Grand Purge is that this could be the last time that Obama gets to sign federal appropriations bills into law as the sitting president. With GOP moderates removed from key leadership posts in both chambers of Congress, Cruz and his acolytes could all but hold the entire nation hostage next year this time. Thirty-four (34) Class 3 Senators are up for re-election next year, including Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, and John McCain.
