From imdb.com:
"Delpy: "Da Vinci Role Is Mine"
French actress Julie Delpy has set her sights on the role of cryptologist Sophie Neveu in the forthcoming movie adaptation of best-selling book The Da Vinci Code. The Before Sunset star is a huge fan of Dan Brown's novel and is desperate for director Ron Howard to cast her opposite Tom Hanks in the mystery thriller. An American Werewolf in Paris and The Passion of Ayn Rand star Delpy enthuses, "The character is French, in her thirties and has a shade of red in her hair. I can become a redhead.""

I saw her pic on imdb...not quite what I was picturing when I read the book. I was thinking Sophie Marceau. Obvious this is hardly a confirmation - I was just curious what you guys think.

I didn't think this warranted a new thread, but Silas may be close to being cast!

Doctor Who To Play 'Da Vinci Code' Thug?
British actor Christopher Eccleston has wasted no time in finding his next big project after giving up on TV series Doctor Who after one season - he's reportedly in talks to play the villain of The Da Vinci Code. The Gone In 60 Seconds star is said to be the new favorite to play killer monk Silas in director Ron Howard's adaptation of Dan Brown's best-selling book, according to website Digitalspy.Com. Jim Carrey was also rumored to be in talks for the role of the monk, who is a fearsome albino in the story. The Da Vinci Code, which will star Tom Hanks, Jean Reno and Audrey Tautou, begins filming in June.
Thoughts? Judging from his photos, it's not quite the Ralph Fiennes I was picturing, but I can definitely see an albino monk in him. Finally, some casting I like!
Julie Delpy on IMDb
Have you ever actually seen Julie Delpy in a film?
"Before Sunrise" and "But I'm a Cheerleader". I don't remember either movie much though.
I happen to think she's a brilliant actress. I've seen most of her films (Domestic & Foreign) and I'm happy she's finally getting some of the recognition she deserves.
I happen to be happy for you that you're happy she's finally getting some recognition she deserves. I'm not ragging on her. I'm just saying that aesthetically speaking, she isn't what I pictured Sophie to look like. *shrug*
lol. I was just saying that I'm sure you won't be dissapointed if she takes the role. =)

She's very pretty- I could see her playing Sophie, I think. I haven't seen her act, so I can't speak for that, but her face seems fine.
Hey, Tiff, you finish that paper?
I think she'd be good--I like her as an actor, though I always pictured Sophie as a brunette.
She's very pretty, yeah. I keep picturing women playing against Colin Firth though, because I always pegged him for the role of Robert. (Note: I'd look really good against Colin Firth. Just, y'know, FYI.) Tom Hanks though....ehhhhh...
Where was she in But I'm a Cheerleader? I just saw that credit on IMDb and I saw it once, but I don't remember her in it.
And Plum, um.... *guilty look*
Exactly, groupie. I was thinking brunette too, even though the book talks about the red in her hair. I couldn't shake Sophie Marceau. Hell, even CZJ.

Move it, Tiff! Work! I'm almost done; let's go!
She only had a cameo in CHEERLEADER. Do you remember the girl at the bar who danced with Megan? That was her.
I vaguely remember Megan at a bar, but not much more than that. Was she any good in the sequel to Before Sunrise? I don't remember the first one too well.
Okay Plum! I'm going! I'm going! (Am I crying wolf today or what??)
For the last time, Tiff, Colin Firth is MINE.
BEFORE SUNSET was one of the best films I saw this year. It was even better than the first and goes into my book of best romance films of all time.
Matt_G, I never caught it, but loved the first and loved the whole premise of doing the second one and re-visiting the story. Is it out on DVD yet?
Yes, it came out on DVD 3 weeks ago.
The premise of the second one sounds interesting. I'll have to rent the first one again. I've become a sucker for romantic movies. (Something about being alone gives me that masochistic tendency to watch films where couples live happily ever...*sob*.)
Edit: When's it supposed to start filming? I'm really eager to see who they cast as Silas! I keep picturing (yes, I know - I'm a very visual person, okay??) Ralph Fiennes a la Red Dragon. Oooh.
Tiff, go write your paper, young lady. And then you can rent both Before Sunrise and Before Sunset as a reward. Now scoot!
Yes, mom.
I've started my outline! Does that count for anything??

No. Outline's don't count for SH*T. It's like talking about a project. The more you talk about it, the further away it gets to actually happening.
Type, typeATiff.
Anyway, I'm one of those people that is baffled by the overwhelming popularity of this book. I'll probably go see the movie, since it will make a bajillion dollars on opening weekend, but also because the movie will be better than the book. The thing with the book is, it's a GREAT story, horribly told. So on screen, it'll be good. That's my theory.
All I have to say is LORD I HOPE NOT. It's like they combed all of France to find the actress with the least talent, not to mention the only French actress who I simply cannot abide. I tolerated her in ER even though she was appalling but I can't sit through her films without becoming violent at how awful she is. If she gets the Sophie Neveu role, I won't be watching the movie.

I totally, 100% agree. I can understand it's popularity, because it's storyline and its theories are very intriguing, but the only apsect that I HATED was the way it was narrated. You could tell Dan Brown wrote it, expecting it to be made into a movie. And if Howard stays loyal to the book, it's going to be a fantastic, suspenseful movie.

I was thinking that Sophie was a redhead for some reason... maybe they'd dye it? As for Silias, he's an albino, so whoever they cast will have makeup caked on them anyway. Don't worry too much about looks.
I agree about Brown's writing style. It's a lot of interesting facts (or fabrications, depending on who you ask) but the characters are extremely flat.
Bump!
