Key-riste on a cracker. Why can't all popcorn movies be as good as this one?
I believe Stallone might finally get an Oscar.
Such a damn enjoyable movie.
Thought this was gonna be awful, the reviews are insanely good though so excited to watch this rather than hate watch it. However I don't know how good it can be when it doesn't have Dolph Lungeron looking hot in shorts in it.

I know, right? But seriously, it's so much better than we thought possible. And just so many many smart little directorial moves. Just terrific.
I had zero interest in this, too, but just saw that it's actually the same director as Fruitvale Station. I'm in.

And the sound is fantastic and the score and the cinematography...

I also had little interest in this until the reviews came out. I'm hoping it has at least some of the emotional impact that Rocky Balboa had. ( I really loved that movie. Great story, music, had tears in my eyes many times.)

No one cares what an old queen thinks, though...

I was also genuinely surprised at how good Creed was. I've never liked boxer films (though I did like The Fighter) but this one blew me away. Stallone is my frontrunner for supporting Actor at the Oscars at the moment. Would be a great comeback story if he won.

When did the compulsion start whereby the second people see something, they immediately think which awards it should win? I honestly don't think about awards at all until they announce the nominations. Like, why is box office and awards how we measure the value of art? Like why not just be happy you saw art that moved you? This isn't really about Hamilton22, just a broader societal thang.

It all started with Entertainment Tonight...
(but I thought the same thing about Stallone)
Entertainment Weekly is just as bad. They even go as far as to use global grosses when making a positive statement about something, but when they are doing the reverse, they say only made $XXM domestically. I do want to see Creed, though. I thought the Rocky Balboa movie was good, too.

Entertainment Tonight began before Entertainment Weekly. It was the first building block in the contemporaryry American Entertainment industrial complex and its headbandian minions we endure to this day.

What makes you think the people that saw the film aren't just happy they saw it? Only a small portion of movie goers care about the academy awards, much more people just see films because it interests them. Besides, Most people know box office success doesn't actually mean the film was good or not.
And to answer your question (which I'm sure you already know the answer to) it is because it's award season. My main question to you though is why do you care? The award season is a harmless hobby for some people and it's certainly not doing any harm. It's no different than people picking their favorite football teams for the superbowl. Not sure why you are upset about people trying to figure out who will get nominated.
Ps. I didn't say Stallone should win. There is no "compulsion". I said he is my frontunner right now but that could change as there are many films to be seen still.

Pretty basic. I find it perplexing, which makes me wonder about it. I think it does do harm, but only to the person engaged in said activity, since it turns artistic creation into a reductive horse race of its components. I have to imagine people will then see the Danish Girl, will immediately then pit Stallone vs. Redmayne, and which one ranks higher, or if Stallone would be supporting, blahblahblah.
It just seems like they came up with a boring way for people to discuss art without having to discuss art.
Award season means nothing, either. People rank Tony nominees on here before a show goes into rehearsal. ![]()

This is relatively new. I'd guess less than a decade now.
Lol what? No it's not new. Like at all. It's been going on since Oscars,Tony's and just about every type of competition started out

In your lifetime, that is probably true.
Ended up catching this between events yesterday, and it was a lot of fun, although I didn't remember the backstory of Apollo's death (and I guess they weren't too keen on bringing Rocky IV into the mix), but it hardly mattered.
