So, did anyone else happen to watch the memorial tonight on Animal Planet? I caught it when looking for Animal Precinct and was hooked into watching the whole thing.
Terri Irwin didn't speak. She looked awful, and was crying the whole time. His daughter Bindi spoke, rather nicely I thought, for an eight year old.

I'm sure Animal Planet will be running the hell out of it over the next few days.
There were a lot of Aussie celebs there, but I gotta say...that "Wiggles" guy was creeping me out. He had a bizarre smile on his face the whole time that I guess he got from being a kid's tv host for so long. It seemed weird.
I also thought the "official driving of Steve's truck out of the Crocoseum" was going a bit too far, and the people waving at the camera every time a camera came in on an audience member was a bit tacky, but the speeches were very heartfelt.

This got amazing TV coverage here in Australia, of the 5 free to air television stations three were showing it. I don't think we realised how big he was internationally.
I felt sorry for the poor guy from The Wiggles. He was obviously reading from a teleprompter but they had put it to his extreme left so he had to keep looking left to read. They sold tickets to this memorial. I didn't see too many celebs, mostly politicians. I think they overdid the "great Australian' stuff. I bet within the month it will be available on DVD with profits going to a Steve Irwin wildlife foundation or whatever.

Posted: 9/20/06 at 8:05amI thought that the concert feel of it, ie the people waving at the cameras, was a bit much, but I think Steve would have wanted it that way. It seemed to fit his personality. I bet he would have been mad if it had been a sorrow filled event.

Everything I read points to the tickets not being "sold" to this, but merely distributed to people.

You could be right there, I saw on the news people leaving an agency with Ticketmaster tickets, I ( possibly wrongly ) assumed they were bought. I was watching while doing something else.
What I was right about is the DVD. It has been announced that it will be released in October.

That's stupid! I hope that when my time comes and I get offered a state funeral, my family better accept -- or I'll haunt them for life. I demand to be buried like Eva Peron!

Posted: 9/28/06 at 10:19amIt was very nice, I tivoed it for my boyfriend. Their story is incredible, a relationship of my dreams. If you ever have a chance to go on safari or even step outside of your comfort zone for a bit do it. Bindi is adorable, she's gonna be a star.

"Do you wanna be mummified and propped up at dinner, too?"
Actually, that doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. I have reservations about being buried or cremated. The former: I cringe at the thought of decomposition and of becoming worm-food. The latter: When I was a kid, I was in a burning accident which badly injured my right hand; therefore, any more damage by fire is repugnant to me. I know I'll be dead and I'm not supposed to care, but as long as I'm alive those two options don't appeal to me. I'm not too keen about the dining room scenario, though. I was thinking more along the lines of a glass coffee table.
