"he was a man that died doing something he loved doing"
Okay, now that this platitude has been repeated for the skajillionth time in the past 24 hours, can I just ask one question? Who loves getting fatally pierced through the heart?

this is absolutely great! there is not enough actual death being shown on television.
now if we can just get them to go back to electrocuting death row inmates and broadcast that live and in high def, baby, that'll be something.

To warn others about what? Not to go hunting stingrays?
I watched way too much about this guy last night, including his interview on Larry King. They played the video of him and the baby and the croc, and it was pretty disturbing. The other thing that bothered me was his kamikaze approach toward the reptiles. Wasn't the reason the majority of people watched was to see him do crazy things that seemed borderline insane? For my money, he didn't teach people how to interact with wildlife. He performed a seemingly endless series of "don't try this at home" stunts. The thing I found most irritating, coming from a man who frequently handles poisonous snakes, was his bragging that he doesn't travel with anti-venom serum because he knows what he's doing...*he's* a professional. And even though he's been bitten a gazillion times by snakes, none of them have been poisonous. Where was the logic there?
I don't doubt his commitment to conservation, but I do question his methods.

Okay, this says that they actually haven't decided yet,
But I've heard other reports saying that it will be shown.

In keeping with the spirit of this message board and Steve Irwin's life in show business, let's borrow a line from Sondheim to talk about TV ratings:
"That's what it's all about, isn't it? That's what it's REALLY about, isn't it? That's what it's really about, really abouuuuuuut!!!!!"

ratings? you want ratings? c'mon people, i'm telling ya: televised executions.
however, i did learn this morning that one should shuffle through waters known as home to rays so that you can gently nudge them out of the way as opposed to stepping on them which will greatly reduce the liklihood of being stung.

"He was also dropped down a flight of stairs by his father..."
Yeah but these things are mere "accidents." It obviously wasn't an accident when Michael Jackson dangled his baby over the balcony...sorry for the threadjack.

Posted: 9/5/06 at 4:59pmOk, please tell me someone agrees with me. Today I was talking to this girl, and comparing steve's life with a firefighter's life. I was saying how being a firefighter and dying in a fire was more meaningfull then being killed by a sting ray cause the firefighter was trying to save someone. And this girl told me that "No one will care about the firefighter dying cause hes not famous". Anyone agree? With me, not her.
#193crocodile hunter killed
Posted: 9/5/06 at 5:02pmDepends. Was the someone the firefighter tried to save famous?

Then no. Famous people and people trying to save famous people are just inherently worth more.
