DICK TRACY is one of my favorite movies and this year (June 15th to be exact) will mark the film's 20th anniversary (and still no word on a 20th anniversary special edition Blu Ray from Disney) I found a pretty cool Twitter page and Myspace page devoted to the film for fans celebrating the 20th anniversary.

* was filmed on the Universal Studios backlot that sadly burned down in 2007
* Disney had over a hundred licenses for DICK TRACY merchandise so they wouldn't fall short as Warner Bros. had with 1989's BATMAN
* There are several hidden Mickey's through out the painted City scenes
* All the vehicles in DICK TRACY were re-worked to be generic so they wouldn't look like a particular car company brand
* "Live Alone And Like It" was performed by Mel Torme & written by Steven Sondheim for DICK TRACY but was not included on the soundtrack
* Al Pacino who portrayed "Big Boy" Caprice, stayed in character while on the set
* Sean Young was set to play Tess Trueheart but was let go. She told the press she was fired because she wouldn't sleep with Warren Beatty
* Veteran film actor, Mike Mazurki, played the old man in the Hotel and ironicly was a villian in one of the original 1940's DICK TRACY films
* Warren Beatty once said he was going to release a Directors Cut of DICK TRACY cause he had 20+ minutes of unseen footage he wanted to add.By adding the extra minutes it would make DICK TRACY a much darker film such as the comic strip was back in the day
* Clint Eastwood was considered for the role as DICK TRACY before Warren Beatty decided to do it

wow has it been 20 years, god i feel old. I watched that at the cinema when it came out.
Me too. I used to have the toy watch that they sold to look like the one Dick Tracy used. Good times!
I remember when the film, and soundtrack came out. "Vogue" was on it, and it EXPLODED.......it was a massive hit.
God.......20 years ago? Where does the time go?
Sean Young was set to play Tess Trueheart but was let go.
INnthat case, Dick Tracy truly dodged a bullet.

It seems like Sean Young had a string of misfortunes in the late 80s/early 90s. Having to be replaced in Burton's first Batman, let go from Dick Tracy, being passed over for Michelle Pfeiffer for Catwoman in Batman Returns, and then playing a cross-dressing place kicker with severe revenge issues in Ace Ventura.
I'm glad she was "let go". Glenne Headly is one of my alltime favorite actresses.
I'm glad Beatty is hanging on to the rights. He still owns them and has been fighting the Chicago Tribune for years. He has made it clear he does not want a remake or reboot of Dick Tracy unless he is involved somehow.(producing/directing.Not starring as)
"and then playing a cross-dressing place kicker with severe revenge issues in Ace Ventura."
I auditioned for that very same part!
I liked everything about the movie except Beatty. He didn't fit as the tough-as-nails comic strip version, nor did he work as the technicolor cartoon version.
You can see Madonna's nipples poking through her top... schwing!
I agree it was not his best performance, very subdued in fact. It was almost like he was afraid people would just see Warren Beatty instead of Dick Tracy so he took it low-key, but it still felt more like Warren Beatty than Dick Tracy. Even the praise for his performance, Ebert's for one, said it was playing a cop without a personality to be more human. Still love the colors and look of the whole movie, which kind of made Beatty feel a little bit out of place for me.
On Sean Young, she had to be recast as Vicky Vale in Batman because she broke her arm horseback riding. I think she desperately wanted to be apart of the process so she took the role of Catwoman in the next film to the nth degree. The Joan Rivers Show appearance alone was crazy but the other stuff reported takes it to another level. It's a shame how destructive she became. I liked her in most of her roles- even Ray Finkle.

Sean Young sort of seemed hell-bent on destroying her career. It's hard for to me to feel too bad for her.
Sean Young is crazy(don't believe me? Ask James Woods)She claimed she lost the part of Tess Truheart because she would not sleep with Beatty. Then, she went on a campaign to land the role of Catwoman going so far as showing up at Tim Burton's office at Warner Bros.dressed up as Catwoman. She lost the part to Annette Bening but Annette had to pass the role because she got pregant with Beatty's child. The role later went to Michelle Pfieffer.

You should watch her E! True Hollywood Story. Her mom's a bit cuckoo, too. She claims that the reason her daughter hasn't had the success owed to her is 'cause everyone's jealous of her beauty.
She's crazy for not wanting to sleep with Warren Beaty! Everyone wants him. Beatty has had relationships with Madonna, Cher, Carly Simon, Michelle Phillips, Natalie Wood and sister Lana Wood, Julie Christie, Leslie Caron, Joan Collins, Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Isabelle Adjani, and supermodel Stephanie Seymour.
Going back to Dick Tracy, I also saw it at the movie theatre when I was 10yo and loved it.
As someone born in 1986 I have to ask...
Who is Sean Young?
muscle - You forgot Carrie Fisher.

I smell a Broadway musical in the works.
I had heard years ago Beatty wanted to bring Dick Tracy to Broadway. Sondheim's was going to write a couple more songs and Beatty was going to direct the show(all rumor of course). All that stopped because of the lawsuit with the rights of Dick Tracy.Once this is settled I am sure a Dick Tracy stage show, sequel, reboot, video game, etc will all be in the works.Beatty is holding on to it and I am kind of glad he is.

How is that ironic?
It's like rain on your wedding day. In Seattle.

Okay, NOW I get it. Thanks.
It's ironic because his agent had begged him to change his name in the 40s to Mike Mathis, but he refused. Had he done so, xenophobic Hollywood would have cast him in better roles throughout the years, ultimately resulting in him playing Pruneface rather than Old Man in Hotel in the film.
Another example of the good advice that you just didn't take.
