About a year ago, I tried doing a tap class but since the only dance background I have is from ballet from age 3 to age 9, (which was 6 years ago) it was very difficult to go into a class that had other teens in it, since they were all very advanced. It was really hard to keep up and I had to drop out after a month. Now a year later, I want to do tap or any other dance (jazz ballet or modern) but am afraid of having that same experience again, since I'd rather not be in a class with beginner kids. Any ideas? (I live in Philly if that helps at all...)
Find a studio that offers beginner teen classes.
I've danced at lots of places that offer classes for beginning teens or beginning adults. If it makes you feel any better, when I started dancing at the age of 8 I was in a class with 4 and 5 year olds.

It might be hard to find, but there are dance studios that offer drop-in classes- you pay for a certain amount of classes (15, for example) and you can go to any 15 classes you want. Most of these classes are for teens and adults and are for all levels. Often the level of the class depends on how experienced the students in the class are during that specific lesson.

If you can afford it, you may also try taking a few private lessons just to get yourself back up to speed. I was considering taking swing lessons at an Arthur Murray dance studio. I'm sure they probably also offer tap and whatever else you might be interested in too.
