Multitalented multidisciplinarian David Hyde Pierce (best known for playing Niles on Frasier) has found success on Broadway, on television, and on the big screen -- and although his sexuality has always been an open secret within the artistic community (much like Neil Patrick Harris), he has been reticent to speak to the topic publicly -- as is his right. In fact, our own Brent Hartinger did the first interview with Pierce after Frasier debuted and was told, "Basically, I don't talk about my personal life."
That's why it's so surprising to see reference made to his "partner" made in a recent AP story on Pierce that hit CNN.com recently, among other places. The story notes:
"He worked at Playwrights Horizons, the Public Theater, Shakespeare in the Park and a lot of regional theaters such as the Guthrie in Minneapolis, Chicago's Goodman and Long Wharf in New Haven, Conn. Pierce got to Los Angeles in the early 1990s when his partner, actor-writer-producer Brian Hargrove, wanted to write for television."
The mention is buried a dozen paragraphs in, so it's very easy to miss -- to be sure that the reference is accurate and was intended, AfterElton.com contacted Pierce's representation, who confirmed that Hargrove is indeed Pierce's life partner.
Wow, stunning news! I would have never guessed! I applaud his bravery- after only 15+ years with his partner he has the courage to step up and say "I am what I am!" Bravo David!
(Sarcasm alert! Sarcasm alert!)
Better late than never I guess.....

I thought that he had been out for a while...
Yeah I thought this was sort of concrete knowledge, if a little foggy.
But anyway, does it really matter
((sobs as Niles breaks her heart))
Tee hee
He has said one of my all time favorite quote regarding his personal life you know,
he says
"I live my life as an open book, I just don't plan on reading it out loud to people."
<3
It IS a shock.
Frasier and Niles were always so...macho.
Rath you are too funny!
I love the quote you posted StarStruck
He needs to pass some of that around backstage, if you know what I mean.
And no, I don't mean that.
Yes, you do.
I would have been shocked if you had posted that he was straight.

All I can think about is how appalled John Mahoney must be! Do you think he KNEW?
Mahoney should be right behind him...
And somewhere Stephen Stanley is tipping his toupee to DHP...
I wonder what Daphne has to say about this.
"Finally, an explanation!"
How odd. I just always see him so much as Niles that I never gave it a second thought.
What would Maris say?

Thank you.
:sigh: I still love 'im though.
In the Playbill for CURTAINS he dedicates his performance (in his bio) to Brian.

"If you were gay,
That'd be O.K.,
I mean cause hey,
I'd like you anyway.
Because you see,
If it were me,
I would feel free to say,
That I was gay,
But I'm not gay"
Love DHP no matter what. His personal life is none of our business.
He's such an amazing man.
I applaud him for finally coming out, it's great.
He's an inspiration to me, a in-the-process of coming out person.
Thank you David for being an inspiration.
Also, he's an amazing performer.
Love DHP no matter what.
Well, I am sure he is glad that it is "okay" with you. I gather by that comment that if you were not such a fan this WOULD matter?

Suleen, you've got it all wrong. Even if I were not such a big fan, it would not matter to me AT ALL what his sexual preferences are. What I meant to say was that "no matter what" people may say about him, his life, or his acting, I still like him and I am a fan. O.K.?
I would just like to say something before this gets out of hand, and if you feel the need to reply to it, my PM box is ready.
Anyway, This always happens when a discussion regarding the sexual preference of a celebrity preference is mentioned.
Personally, it is not about caring or judging them by their choice at all, and I disapprove that people always jump to that.
I mean yes, some people are shallow.
But we for the most part are musical theatre-folk whom could care less about judging someone based on whether they are homosexual or not.
I believe that people just want to know & discuss because they care about this person, and admire them, and thusly just like to hear information regarding them.
I am an admirer of David Hyde Pierce, and this whole coming out business yes, is his business, but that doesn't mean the fans who love him should not be interested.
More power to you sir, <3
Thank you.
