I found SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK to be an incredibly moving film. I think there's real tenderness in all the films of his I've seen. I've never found them repugnant. In fact, I find Fantod repugnant.

As for refusing to engage with the works of people like Woody Allen and Polanski, I think that's utter nonsense. Aside from liking the work of those gentlemen (regardless of their personal issues), Orson Welles was a giant as*hole, and I love most of his work. Walt Disney had his issues, and I find stuff to like some of the films he produced, and would even go so far as to call the first five Disney feature films masterpieces of cinema, warts and all. Richard Rodgers was a huge d*ck, but that doesn't stop me from loving his work. Ditto Jerry Robbins.

I can't speak for jv but my guess was that it's the use of the same over the top language you used to describe movies that you are too young to see without a parent or guardian.

I can totally understand some tween watching an R-rated movie he's not supposed to see and not getting it in the least. The thing that makes it so hard to buy about the Fantod approach is the accusations of amorality and repugnancy and not a single awards-worthy performance.

I think in many ways, you have to separate the man from the work, though Walt Disney may not be the strongest example (since hew as a product of that time), it still comes to prove that we can't have these levels of "good and bad"...Walt Disney created beautiful and revolutionary films that made people happy, but as said before...look at his other side...
