This debate has got to be a joke. The current question is "How would you use former President Bill Clinton in your administration"?

What's hardly a "joke" is Edwards and Kucinich holding Clinton and Obama's feet over the fire. Edwards has found his focus, in short order drawing more distinctions between Hill's equivication and his own.

No, the joke are the Repulseican candidates. From Guilianni to Romney, they are the most pathetic bunch of losers to run for the office.

While Kucinich is clearly the best candidate, I thought Gov. Richardson looked very good in this style of debate. Hillary seemed to loosen up a bit (loved the crack about Cheney). Edwards also seemed more aggressive. I think the big loser of the debate was Obama.

seems like the early winner of the debate will be obama. this based on the early results of what's getting coverage (thus what the majority of people who didn't watch the debate, i.e. the majority of americans, will take away from it). the soundbite that will get and is getting the most play is obama's "you're about 4 1/2 years too late" slam of edwards.

that's what's getting airplay and that's what the majority of americans will see.

I heard the consensus suggests Edwards won. But I agree with Pal Joey. I'm tired of the lot of them, particularly Herself. And I wish Democratic strategists would wake up and smell the Republican gloating over her leading status. She's the country's most beatable Democrat, and they are wisely doing everything possible to promote her candidacy. Yet I heard on Saturday she has the highgest negative of anyone running in either party. And though I've been a rabid Democrat my entire adult life, I don't personally have a single Democratic friend anywhere -- from SF, to Charlotte, NC, to NY to Wasshington DC -- who supports her. We've been force-fed her "front runner" designation from day one. I want her gone so we can focus on somebody who'll win. By the time we finish our 8th year with this regime, the last thing we'll want is to say "well, at least we ran a woman." This is no time for such pyhrric victories.

papa, your assessment of who won the debate is exactly the opposite of everything i've heard, seen, and read. All the sources I see say that Obama lost a lot. I think Edwards' appreciation of him was actually a wonderful step for Edwards, and deflated the big "I didn't like the war from the start" baloon that Obama had been blowing into.

i should clarify, touch. i didn't mean the person whose arguments were the most coherent or who presented the best cases, but simply the person who would get the most coverage. i'm not talking about who the political cognoscenti or those here who follow these things decide was the winner. i'm simply talking about the person who'll get the most coverage on the nightly news, the morning shows and the places where those folks who are not closely following things will get an impression of what happened.

from watching the morning shows i saw the obama statement on every single one of them. i didn't see a clip of edwards. my feeling is that if (and i do say if, since i'm basing this on a knee jerk morning after reaction which could completely change in a day or so) this clip continues to dominate the news, that obama gets the most positive coverage. edwards statement was nice, but it's not gonna get covered (i may be wrong, but i doubt it).

Now, that's certainly true. But, we all knew Obama and Clinton would get the most coverage -- even before the debate started. After all, they're "leading in the polls".

but i think that more than just the front runner thing, the dig at edwards (guaranteed to get massive coverage) and also the assurance that he'd move to whack obama, uh i mean osama, did help barrack hussein in this debate. the majority of the voters are not digging deeply into the details of their policies at this point (many won't ever) but are simply trying to get a feel for the candidates at this point. in that sense, i'd give him the debate for those two points alone.

i wonder how much coverage chris dodd's "talk clock" will get and if it will have any effect on future debates.

If Hillary really feels we're "safer" but "not as safe as we could be" she has clearly opted to slap a percentage of her base up side the head.

I'm starting to confuse this group with the crazy Republican group.

Thank God for Kuccinich, Gravel and Paul. I only wish they could throw out those "facts" during the real debates. I love how Gravel brought up campaing finances and earmarks.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if Hillary just walked away from it all and came back with truth. All I know is that if we elect one of these people on good faith, they sure as hell legalize gay marriage and end DADT.

Obama reads like a jerk. I hate how he and Hillary play off of each other.

He does that whole "But ya are, Blanche, ya are in that chair" crap to Edwards about the war. Obama would have voted the same at Edwards and Hillary. They all vote for the same spending bill. He certainly has.

I also think he should meet a trainer or start juicing. If he put on a few pounds he might be contender. Now it looks like his clothes are too big and he just seems so cold.

Hillary looks like she's had some work done.

Agreed...Obama doesn't look presidential which will certainly work against him on game day. Hill-of-Bill has never been a babe, or had the lesbian chic thing goin' on or possessed the commanding presence/intellectual heft of Margaret Thatcher so it's curtains for her too (shallow as hell but prescient...just wait and see).

We dems must quickly prop up an August version of Malibu Ken (w/ both brain & brawn) to go w/ Richardson's salt-of-the-earth governor from piss-poor NM persona who can galvanize a major voting bloc. I'm sorry Hill-of-Bill-philes...it's about winnin!
