If you've not seen this movie, you must go immediately. Although I am not really one for Sci-Fi movies, this film was phenomenal. Truly one of the best movies of the year and it will be a real shame if it is not nominated for 'Best Picture' at the Oscars, simply because of its subject matter.

Go see it!

Is it scary or gory? I really can't tell from the promos. But I love Sci-fi.

It is a bit gory, and not really scary, more so suspenseful. It's a great movie that plays more like a suspenseful drama than straight up sci-fi. It does contain a lot of disturbing scenes though, but the film is expertly crafted.

Because of how it developed, leading to a production budget FAR below that of current flicks, they are going to make a KILLING.

It strikes me as something I may want to see in a theater. But thanks to this slew of gory movies over the past several years, I tend to stay away from most of the "horror" movies these days. Even some of the sci-fi.

Saw it last night. Hoping it gets a BP nomination, as well. Magnificent. I just loved it so much.

To be fair, I didn't see Terminator Salvation or Transformers 2, but I understand they were horrid with the script being the biggest offender. Well, this film (made for a fraction of their budgets) has an incredible script and remembers that sci-fi is about metaphors--about being about something important, not just blowing **** up.

I second that Jerby! I hate sci-fi and I truly loved this film. It is throwback to when science fiction actually had some incredible messages and an intellectual core. Most of the crap that comes out now is just mind-numbing garbage. I teared up at several sections of the film and cried at the end. WHEN DOES THAT HAPPEN IN A SCI-FI FLICK?
I highly recommend the film. It is gory at times and incredibly tense, but isn't that why we go to the movies? To feel things? :)

Am I the only one who is shocked to find out that this was Sharlto Copley's first starring role in a film? I hope not, because I thought the man was bloody amazing!

:::::::SPOILERS BELOW:::::::::::
:::::::SPOILERS BELOW:::::::::::

I especially loved that he made you care for Wikus near the ending of the movie, especially seeing that at the beginning he was forcing the aliens into ghettos and telling them what to do. Then when he's turning into one himself, and he helps out the prawns in the end. Basically turned from into an ass to kicking ass. Loved it.

I watched 45 minutes and left with 4 friends. We all thought it was terrible.

Just John, I cant believe you left after 45 minutes, you really missed the core of the film. The beginning is all set up for the intense action and moving story. I cant believe all 5 of you walked out? I mean, you knew what the film was about going into it, right? All 5 of you hated it that much based on 45 minutes?

Wow Just_John. If you walked out on the movie 45 minutes in (which I'm pretty sure includes the trailers before the movie), you certainly missed out on a lot, and I mean A LOT!

Too bad, since I hear from other people who went to go see the movie that they thought it just got better and better as the story progressed.

I saw it on Friday and thought it was fantastic. The leading guy was incredible!!! and I loved how they started it out as a documentary and then it seamlessly switch into a movie. It was brilliant. :)

saw the movie today..... Sharlto Copley was freaking amazing in this movie... Peter Jackson and the director kept pumping him up as this incredible new talent and man they were NOT exaggerating... his journey as Wiikus was just heartbreaking... to see where he was at the start of the movie all the way to the end... that's just some awesome work right there... AND he had to act against a computer generated character!!! this guy deserves all the recognition he can get and i look forward to see where he goes as an actor..

btw... i'm worried that a sequel is in development... i know they set it up for one... but they just did a great job here... and i know that hollywood is going to screw it up some way because of how much if cost to make and how much it could potentially make for the studio... this is an independent film and they will try to control the creative team in the sequel...

Just_John, how could you accurately rate the movie unless you saw the entire thing? You really do need to see it all, because it is a true work of art. Quite possibly the best sci-fi movie ever made.

As for Sharlto Copley, he really deserves a Best Actor nomination. This was his first role, and it was so honest and true. I really hope that he is nominated, because his character makes such an incredible transformation and by the end of the movie, he is in no way the person that he was at the beginning, yet he retain this certain charm throughout the movie that always makes his character likable. The best performance from an actor this year in my opinion so far.

I won't be as worried about a sequel being ruined because I think Jackson will be able to produce it how he wants. A sequel could be terrific.

I agree, Bettyboy--nice to see a sci fi film that grabbed you emotionally. It's def a film for thinking people. Those who want to turn their brain off would do better seeing some of the other crap that has come out this summer.

I think the inclusion of the child was GENIUS. It really hits home that idea of innocence and how we are all essentially children, and when we hate or vilify others, we are not taking into account their humanity. That we were all children once, and parents, no matter who they are or where they come from, love their children the same as we do. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. When the little one was yelling for his father on the ship, it just broke my heart. Oh dear, Im gonna start crying again. UGH!

Isaw it yesterday and thought it was amazing. Really poignant and a fantastic adventure. I would see it again, it was such a powerful film. I think the first part of the film that was all documentary-style and the second part that became a more action style were weaved together quite nicely, and I loved it.

From the ads, I really thought I wouldn't like this one... but my flatmates saw it today and have come back raving!
I guess the marketing will make more people want to see it, but to me it sounds a lot better than the ads describe it, which makes it look like a lame sci-fi bit of rubbish...
I guess I should give Peter Jackson more credit. :)
I will definitely see it now, sounds great!

Excellent film. Thought provoking,taut, exciting and boldly original...and ultimately heartbraking. I think if a sequel is intended, Jackson would make sure he & his director would have control over DISTRICT 10. Love to see this again.
