NOoooooOoOoOooo.
Rath's singing voice is flat-out gorgeous.
To answer the question, I'm very happy with my voice, although years of smoking have definitely taken a toll. My voice was much purer ten years ago.
You KNOW I am. :P
You're rubber and something-that-bounces-things-off-material and I'm supersuperultra sticky glue. Whatever you say to yourself bounces off of you and sticks to me.
Okay, you're smarter and prettier!!
I like my singing voice better than my speaking voice. My speaking voice is much higher.
Oh, now you've gone and confused me...
I suppose since you've SAID it to me, it stuck. So. Now what, Ms. Smartypants?!
Me too, Atrias. I've heard from the best voice teachers that your singing voice and speaking voice should sound alike - that means your placement would be correct for your speaking voice - but I've never even gotten close.
My best friend has much better technique than I do, and her singing and speaking voices sound exactly the same.
Well, apparently I could be a soprano, if I really wanted, according to my drama/singing director person. I really, really doubt that.
I am a soprano, but my speaking voice is still higher-pitched. I sound like an eight year old when I speak, whereas my singing voice is quite mature and textured. I really should work on it, but part of me thinks the character sound of my speaking voice is better for acting. I'm not really sure.
Atrias, that's exactly what my "voice teacher" (my aunt who teaches voice and piano for a living who I never have time to work with...) says. I KNOW I haven't developed my voice to anywhere near where it could be and it frustrates me because I DO have an ear for music and I could be so much better than where I am now.

No I don't I get sick of my own voice
I took a course on vocal health a few summers back, and the presenter had a very interesting theory about the range of women's voices getting lower and lower since the 1930's, due in part to women needing to compete in a man's world, and the female role models, especially actresses and TV personalities we are exposed to each day.
I can definately see where she was coming from, because if you watch older movies...say from the 1940's, most of the women's speaking voices are much higher than women's voices are today.
I have to admit that I've noticed a difference in the ranges of female pop singers even in the last 20 years. A lot of the 80's female singers had much more of a soprano sound than the kind of unisex alto/tenor nearly all the songs are currently sung in.
I love my singing voice. I have a huge range, and my voice is very versatile. It can go big, operatic, small, intimate, whatever. I can entertain myself for hours with a microphone and the sound of my own voice. I don't do a great pop sound in my opinion. Well I can DO it, but it's nothing special. People tell me pretty much across the board I have a definitive Broadway voice. My technique has slipped lately because I'm not singing much except for myself, and I'd like to start singing again in a choir or voice lessons.. Dust off those rusty high As and up!
One thing I find odd about my voice: I have an amazing falsetto (I can deliver on this promise), but I can't sing low nearly at all. My voice gets weaker down there. Supposedly if you can sing very high, you are supposed to be able to sing very low too. Well, I can't.
This is a great self esteem thread ;P Whoever said it, yeah, we should put up sound clips and have Broadway World Idol.
we have a soundclip thread, but no one really cares.
I'll revive it! But we should have BWW Idol. How much fun would that be?
Like the real American Idol, winning would have nothing to do with singing.
Sing it, Aigoo!
how do you make a sound clip? not that I ever would, or that it matters because I can't HEAR SOUND ON MY COMPUTER *hits it* but I would like to know.
and rath you really shouldn't be so hard on yourself. why not boost your ego a bit and take a chance to say you're not only the best singer on this entire site, but in the ENTIRE WORLD!!!!
I don't think that's going too far...
I'm trying to be modest.
I HATE MY SINGING AND MY SPEAKING VOICE.
Oh, Rath, I think you've earned it. You've even foncused me, the great writer of O-Worship'd-FAQ.
I've earned what? And I've WHAT you, now?

I never used to like hearing recording of myself singing, but this summer I got over that. It was a mixture of breaking through vocally and insecurity wise. I'm a huge critic of my voice, if I hear one wrong thing I hate it. But sometimes I even enjoy myself singing. it's usually only in small parts though.
Ronin, my voice is absolutely the same. No low register (max out at a b) but I can go up to a D or E most days in full on voice and I can sing up to a High C mezzo-soprano (I do countertenor sometimes).
But nothing on the low stuff. Nada.
Oh, and Rath, I like what you say about the speaking/singing voice. I'm not going to say I'm the best singer on this site (Whether it's true or not!) but my graduate school teacher always held me up as example to the undergrads because my singing voice and speaking voice are incredible close.
So, yeah, I talk like a girl.
