We love it too, though we're definitely missing David Tenant. Matt Smith has been very hit or miss for us. My wife HATES Amy Pond, but I don't mind her so much.
Hope the new companion will be better (though why is it always some British woman when you have the whole universe to choose from?)

Tennant is the chief for sure, but Matt Smith has done pretty faultless work in my opinion. A very worthy successor, and he keeps improving.
Arthur Darvill is AWESOME as Rory, and I agree that Karen Gillan isn't up to Piper or Tate standards, but she really impressed me in "The Girl Who Waited".

I couldn't be more excited. I will definitely miss the Ponds, but I'm intrigued by the upcoming new companion.

As annoyed as I got during the Tennant era - and by the end, I was waaaay past ready for it to end - something about the Eleven era just isn't inspiring any passion in me one way or another - no spitting hatred, but no love, either. I adored "The Doctor's Wife" and "Vincent and the Doctor," but tellingly, those are the two episodes written by outside celebrities rather than the regular staff. Beyond that I find myself barely caring about Doctor Who anymore, which just makes me sad. I like the actors, I love the direction the cinematography has gone in, but something just...isn't working for me.
But the upside of a show that goes on and on and on is that you can always buckle up and hope next season is better. :)

I agree with Plum (wait, did I *atually* say that? Haha). I love Matt Smith as the Doctor and Love Rory (only like Amy) but it seems that the stories of the Moffet era kind of sucked a lot of the fun out of the show. Now, I do like certain episodes, with "The Girl Who Waited" high on my list.....but nothing has really matched the rewatchability of "Blink," "The Doctor Dances," "Turn Left," "The Wasp and The Unicorn," etc. But, it's still my favorite show on television and I can't wait for Saturday.

Very, very excited. I was so incredibly excited when I learned that Moffat was taking over the show given that some of the very best episodes of the RTD era--'The Girl in the Fireplace', 'Blink', 'Silence in the Library'--were written by Moffat. I may never recover from 'Blink'--just a landmark in my personal Television-watching history.
In practice, though, I find his 'Timey-Wimey' touch a bit heavy-handed, and his focus on the emotional ties between the Doctor and his companions a bit lugubrious. Still--the complexity of the stories and the weaving-in of the longer arcs is so rewarding. I loved the way the season ending episode last year revealed the importance of small, seemingly-unimportant moments in prior episodes.
And I love Rory so much. Not as much as he loves Amy, but I'm not the Last Centurion.
I hope we'll see some Cap'n Jack this season, too.

For me, Moffat's real strength is in his stand alone episodes (or even better, two parters), than in overall story arcs. I'm sure if I really geeked out and examined the stories, or asked a bigger fan, they could explain them, but I've found holes and some oddly missed opportunities. I think mostly RTD did that better, though I found his last season pretty hit or miss (and actually found Tennant becomign way too cutesy by the end, despite some great work in the finale specials--he should have had forced limit of how many comments like "Allons y" he could say per episode).
I'll be very interested to hear who's taking over for Moffat--this is his last year too, isn't it?

If you want to spend some time 'geeking out', Eric, there is no better guide (in my opinion) to NuWho than Steven Cooper at 'Slant'. You can link to his reviews by selecting any episode on IMDB and clicking 'critic's reviews'.
He is articulate, deeply knowledgeable about 'Who' History--he connects the dots beautifully on obscure references to OldWho memes, actors, writers, etc.--and writes cogent, thoughtful essays on each episode. He also fills his reviews with still images from the episode in question and provides lots of transcript excerpts, which I find very helpful, since my babelfish doesn't always get 'Who' English--especially given the show's fondness for working-class characters from the Council flats of East London.
Cooper doesn't shy away from acknowledging sub-par episodes or gaps in logic or continuity, and I sometimes find that his synopsis fills in some of the gaps for me.

Thanks, that looks to be a great resource, and one I can bone up on. For most of RTD's run I watched obsessively--would watch many episodes twice, etc, but I admit the past few years--mainly just due to life being busier, I haven't and have none I've missed some important elements.
Spider, good to hear he's staying for the 50th. I just know Moffat seems to have so many projects at once, going...

I thought "Forest of the Dead" and the "Astronaut"/"Moon" two-parter were also exquisite. When Moffat is on a roll, wild horses couldn't drag me from the TV.
