Doctor Who

According to that list of options, the only choice not matched up with a previous companion is obviously, "left behind", which would make sense for the Ponds since tonight's episode is the weeping angels. Guess we'll find out for sure tonight!

Doctor Who

I'm really hoping fro a good, emotional sendoff for Amy and Rory. As much as I loved the Tennant era and his companions (especially Rose), I'm very fond of the Ponds, so I'm hoping tonight's goodbye will be bittersweet, not outright tragic. Especially because it'd be nice to leave the door open for them to come back briefly next year for the 50th anniversary celebrations!

Doctor Who

I'll have a longer opinion on the episode later.

But for now, how did the Statue of Liberty leave its island, emerge in Manhattan, and make it to the building without a crowd of people gathering and just staring at it in shock?

AND I liked how River brought up how The Doctor was wiping himself out of history and databases.

Doctor Who

I haven't watched the episode yet, but bwayrose.....Karen said that once she left Doctor Who, she wasn't coming back. She doesn't want Amy to be like Rose and show up every now and then because it will lessen the character.

Doctor Who

I just finished watching "The Angels Take Manhattan" and I am still wiping the tears off my cheeks. That was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL send off to Amy and Rory. Was it perfect? No. Do I really care? Not at all. The Angels were *finally* scary again and I loved the film noir feel to the episode. But, of course, this was Amy and Rory's episode and they were never better. This will go down as one of my favorite episodes and Steven Moffatt really did knock this one out of the park.

To Amy and Rory......goodbye old friends!

Doctor Who

Fantastic episode; I was crying from the moment Rory reached the roof of the building and climbed on to the ledge. A beautiful send off indeed.

E.Davis - I made a wimper sound when she said that. I want to watch it and cry again lol

And The Doctor's last "Come along, Pond" to try to get her back to the Tardis.

I agree that the Angels were scary again. To me, they were not scary in the Byzantium/Forest story. They were violent, and we saw them move instead of just appearing moved. Not as menacing.

It was a good send-off and a good episode. For me at least, it was a surprise when Rory was zapped back at the cemetery. The story made sense (I understood why the apartment building existed more than why the boxes were here). River was great as always. Amy and Rory on the rooftop were so good. I wish The Doctor could have called out for Rory too, but I know his connection with Amy is stronger. I do feel for Rory's dad, but at least he can maybe know that they lived good, long lives.

Doctor Who

Oh my Goodness...

I started to tear up when Amy stood next to Rory and said (something like) "they won't get him because they'll have to go through me". By the time they were on the roof I was crying quietly, and when they were in the cemetery? Fuggehdaboutit. Sobbing like a little girl. Like a very very sad little girl.

I thought this ep had it all--Rory & Amy, scary as heck Angels, my beloved NYC looking at it's finest--the arcade at Bethesda Fountain looked Fab--River, laughter, tears and the kind of Timey Wimey stuff that Moffat excels at. No less than the Centurion and the Girl Who Waited deserved.

"Melody, you look after him. Be a good girl, and look after him."

Yeahh, this is around the point that I became useless to the world.

To quote 'RandomAndMad' from the YouTube comments:

"Omg. Jeezus my ovaries? just exploded."

Thanks Josh!

Doctor Who

I've never gotten that expression. It's all over Tumblr, and I don't really get it. Probably because, as someone who has ovaries, I do not ever want them to explode.
#90

Doctor Who

I don't Tumbl, so it's new to me.

I take it as an expression of an overwhelming, lustful desire to copulate and reproduce with the person in question.

While I don't have the organs in question, it gets at the kind of insane, blinding, physiological response I had to the revelation of this heretofore-unknown and incredibly attractive (to me) aspect of Darvill.

If the expression is offensive to those of you with ovaries, I'll look for a more suitable way of expressing myself. (After I listen to him sing again...)

Oh, I get it now! Thanks!

I'm really gonna miss Rory.
#92

Doctor Who

Me too. At first, it kind of annoyed me that they were duplicating the Rose template so far as to give Amy her own version of Mickey Smith--the befuddled love-interest.

Instead of following the Mickey arc of keeping him as a kind of bland, bumbling comic-relief character who then suddenly turns up all capable and brandishing a weapon just when we needed some firepower, they just kept adding layers to his character. To give Darvill credit, he made the most of the role--he was able to give nuance and texture to Rory even with episodes in which he was given minimal dialogue. And whenever they gave him some meat, I thought he was fantastic.

On second thought, ^^^^that's all blah blah blah. I'm a sucker for a red-head with a Roman nose.

I did know he sang, The Josh, but I'd never heard him. Thanks for the link.

Doctor Who

The ending they did not film:

This could have been good, but what they did was fine too. Either way, I wasn't sad to see them go. I couldn't get past how disinterested the Ponds seemed to be in this season's episodes. Looking forward to the next companion.

Doctor Who

A lovely conclusion and closure for Brian. Cried all over again. Really wished they had filmed this.

Doctor Who

Thought I'd bump this in anticipation of the Christmas special! Who else is excited for the new companion, new TARDIS, new theme? And the psycho snowmen of course.
#98

Doctor Who

When is Xmas special?

Will I get the special with my Amazon Season Pass? If not, it may be time to give in to the Darkness and get cable...

I know I am! I want to see what direction they take the show with the new companion. The Christmas Shows have always been quite good, imho, and this gives me something to look forward to after all the hoopla.

Doctor Who

Christmas special airs in the US at 9pm on the 25th on BBCAmerica.

I don't know if it will be available on Amazon. The previous two christmas specials are not listed with the previous two seasons (they're available separately as collections of specials for the various doctors), but if it's not included it will probably be available separately to buy and stream.

One thing that could make it more likely to be available is that unlike previous seasons, the christmas special is essentially part of the season since it is the official introduction of the new companion.

also

Production wise, at least it appears like it's being considered a part of the season which is different from previous Christmas episodes. It's being counted among the announced number of episodes they are doing
