It took me such a long time to overcome my resistance to Catherine Tate--I really dislike the Snarky-Girl characters she does on her show. But she won me over--she was a great Companion.

When we left her back in her apartment yacking with her chums on the phone--with no memory of the worlds she'd seen and the adventures she'd had--it just about broke my heart.

She won me over, as well. It didn't help that her first appearance on that Christmas episode (Runaway Bride?), was pretty grating--and it wasn't a very good episode IMHO. (Then again, I largely disliked the Xmas specials--even when my beloved Kylie did hers--it always felt like they wanted to throw every single thing the show does well over a season into one episode--so you have comedy and then broad pathos, and the inevitable death of a character you barely even got to know, and it rarely adds up for me).

I found this interesting piece about Who this year, whether Moffat has a clear plot mapped out to the end, and some IMHO valid points about the trouble with River Song's arc, as much as I LOVE the character. Thanks for that link, Eric. I've consumed it in a single gulp, now I need to walk the dogs, make dinner and spend some time really reading it. But it's full of good stuff.

Query--wasn't there some timey-wimey reason why The Doctor married River? I remember that it was a race-against-the-clock thing in order to be able to DO something or STOP something or somehow CONTROL something that could only happen once they were married. I never had any sense that it was in any way an expression of their love or mutual regard. So--to say that the Doctor's "love" for River never felt authentic is, I think, a moot point, as I don't ever feel we were asked to believe that it was. Yes, they have enormous regard for one another, but entirely aside from and un-related to their "marriage". Or am I mis-remembering?

Aw, I loved "The Runaway Bride". People always remember the first ten minutes or so when Donna's yelling and freaking out over being beamed out of her wedding, but forget that she was essentially her later self for the rest of it. She's still my favorite modern companion by a mile.

It was the whole episode, actually. I didn't mind the wedding stuff--it was that giant spider super villainess (if I'm remembering this right), and just a lot of things. Although, I still wasn't a big fan of her in the episode. But I do know many fans like it.

Addison, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I actually think you're right, but as I said, I was a crap viewer of the past season and have to go over it all again...

No clue! I can't even imagine how it's gonna work out. But I wonder if just her consciousness was implanted inside the Dalek, or if her body turned into one as well. This is gonna make my head hurt for weeks.

I'm all for snarking in the face of fictional danger, but when you're not the one in that peril, it starts to come off as sadistic. So I'm okay with Oswin not being Oswin or coming back as the Companion in some other form if it means her characterization is tweaked a bit.

The character in the premiere and the future companion have different first names, and I've heard that the companion Oswin is possibly from the Victorian era? So my guess is an ancestor or some sort of relative.

I loved the actress, though. She is gorgeous and very snappy. Can't wait to see her as the companion.

Great episode, that bit at the end when she erased the Doctor from the Daleks memories was fantastic!!!

I wonder if there will be a trend of people forgetting The Doctor. Last season, it was hinted that this season would address the question "Doctor who?".

The only thing I didn't understand, was that when she erased the memory of the Doctor from the Dalek's......wouldn't it have erased her memory as well?

Ps. I LOVE how she said "don't forget me" (and something else) and then looked at the camera as if to say, "I'll be back folks."

They're not going to answer it. Moffat has already said they weren't.

I just figured they officially reconciled. It had been ten months. The "Pond Life" pre-season episodes showed Rory leaving Amy. I liked those. "Ood on the loo".
