"meh. romney was part of an organization (the mormon church) which, up until 1979, was officially racist. you could not be black and be a deacon or a church elder. he was an adult when this occurred."
I can't believe i'm about to say something that will be interpreted as sticking up for Mitt Romney, but the Roman Catholic Church doesn't allow women to be priests in 2013. Do you find this abject sexism excusable? Or are you advocating that Catholics not be allowed to run for office?

no, but i do think they should answer if they think that's a reasonable practice, and if the answer is yes, their constituents would be wise not to vote them into office. people forget, but there was a time when the protestants were deathly afraid of the catholics gaining power (see how christians love each other so much). this was the context of JFK's answer about religion. people were legitimately inquiring as to whether he would answer to the pope or to the constitution.
similarly, i do think romney should have been made to answer questions about what it was like to be part of a racist organization while he was an adult. and the last thing the country needs is liberals saying in response, "tut, tut, respect religion."
btw, by extension, it's hideous that anyone who is LGBT is a member of the catholic or mormon church. how does it feel knowing that your contributions are being used, tax-free, to lie to children who happen to be gay about their sexuality, and, as in 2008, to fund proposition 8 propaganda?
but now we're off topic. what is happening to dean is disproportionate. her behavior is an excellent reason to not buy her products. but this tarring and feathering is excessive. but not exclusive to republican, democrat, liberal, or conservative, as i have already pointed out. liberals "protected" romney from the questions i outlined.

And yet, when you look at Amazon's top 20 current bestsellers, Deen's got numbers 1, 7, 19 and 20. And if you just look at Amazon's cookbooks, she has numbers 1, 2, 3, 4. 8 and 9 of the top ten list.

Yes, and millions of idiots still buy food at McDonalds, even though it's crap.

And people still see Woody Allen movies even though he F*CKed his daughter.
And people still speak highly of Bill Clinton even though he did so much harm to the gay community.
And people still talk to and love their grandparents who still refer to colored people.
