Well, only three more episodes left (not counting the Christmas episode)
I fear what Mr.Bates is gonna do in the near future.
Woah. We're more than halfway through already?!
I loved tonight's episode but good Lord Edith's life will never stop sucking.
It might just be me but have been sitting here waiting for tonights episode and just realized the UK set their clocks back this morning so if anyone else is waiting I just thought I would pass that info on. :)
Edith cannot catch a break!
I know. Poor Edith. Is Branson really gonna leave for the USA? I also can't believe Alfred is gone.
I wanted to pause the letter but will in a bit. I was thinking it was from the Drs office saying she was pregnant.
I think when Matthews mother told Branson to look at the changes at Downton was meant to be the decision that he will end up staying.
Ok. Paused and this is what the letter said.
"I am writing to confirm my findings of our recent consultation, in that your signs and symptoms are consistent with those of the first trimester of pregnancy.
I look forward to being of further assistance to you.
Wait, Edith is pregnant? I totally missed that! I need to re-watch.
Nice episode, though. Can somebody please remind me what Thomas has over that nice Baxter woman?
If you recall last weeks episode she went in to London and they showed her outside a Drs office. I had a feeling at that point she was pregnant.
Other than Thomas getting that Baxter woman the job I don't think we know more than that. If so someone please refresh what it is. :)
******Spoiler Alert******
Oh $HIT! Mr. Bates Knows!
When Mrs. Hughes was confronting Mr. Green I kept wanting her to grab one of those pokers/crops/clubs mounted on the wall and beat him. It will be something to see how this turns out.
Mrs.Hughes was very brave (and I'm sure very angry)I was actually concerned for her. Apparently he has his story all figured out. However,if Mrs.Hughes tells the Police what she saw,the date, the time, and circumstances, and Anna has witnesses that she in fact WAS NOT DRUNK,than it would prove who the real liar is here. However, Julian Fellows does not give as much thought into his plots as the fans do,so this could all be easily over looked. I hope Mary figures it out and gets her Father involved.I don't want to see revenge I want to see justice. I want this guy to get caught and go to jail.I just hope it all resolved in either next week's episode or the Christmas episode.
I also hope the Christmas episode is in fact a Christmas episode and not an episode shown on Christmas. The first season Christmas show with the tree and presents was awesome. Christmas at Downton is beautiful!

Except you're looking at this through the lens of 2013 rather than 1922.
Yeah, you are right. I tend to forget about that. Could women even vote in the UK back in 1922?
Women didn't get voting rights in the UK until 1928, eight years after the US.
There's only one episode and then the Christmas special, right?
My guess is Green will get some sort of magic come-uppance by way of fate - hit by a speeding tractor, or something...that will solve everything in a neat way, plot-wise.
Theory 2 - Thomas will discover what has happened through Baxter, and in a rare display of decency, take matters into his own hands and exact a terrible revenge upon Green.
I hate to say it only NOW feels like the season is starting to find its footing--and it's pretty much over... At least to me. Although I have no idea where they're going with Mary--I assume the end game is Julian Ovendon just because he's slightly more of a name actor, but. Meh.
"Could women even vote in the UK back in 1922?"
Women over the age of 30 who owned property, or were married to someone who owned property had the right to vote from 1920 onwards. This was extended to all women over the age of 21 in 1928. So in terms of Downton, probably only Isobel Crawley (who we saw had a house in Manchester in the first series) can vote at this stage. I doubt the Dowager or the Countess would have the right to vote as they are aristocracy and not "commoners". My noble Lord Grantham would have had the right to sit (ie vote) in the House of Lords by virtue of his birth but we've never see him do so.
"In 1924 London would a male African American singer really step off stage and dance with a white English woman with no objections from other patrons?"
There have never been any racial segregation laws in the UK so it wouldn't be any of the other patrons' business. Any racism would have been implicit rather than explicit as was expressed by Rosamund. It was particularly telling that she sent an Irish man (who there would have been a lot of snobbery towards, particularly at that time) to interrupt them.
What about Aunt Rosamond? I assume she owns her London flat.
I don't know. Is she titled? Is the flat hers or does it belong to Robert who lets her use it? Do we even know if she's been married?
I wish Aunt Rosamond would be a regular on the show. I really do like her.
Yeah Samantha Bond is great.
I always assumed she was widowed at a young age, bu8t have no earthly idea.

So wouldn't Cora and Mary have the vote too, then?
I believe technically Cora's money would be Robert's, wouldn't it? As for Mary... Not sure, since she is a widow.
