there wasn't always an off-topic board either. "why do we need a board to talk about other stuff?" "this is a theatre site, if you want to talk about other things, go find another place!" "if you make place for discussions other than theatre, people will quit talking about theatre."

Different ideas, papalovesmambo. The OT board and the main board cover different discussion territories by definition. The adult board and the "regular" OT board serve to split users, not discussion topics. I'm sure an "adult" board could cover certain topics that aren't allowed here, but the main effect, by definition, would be to split users.

Obviously, that's exactly the effect many of the proponents of the board are going for. Maybe because I was under 18 not too long ago, I rather resent the implications of that. But that's just me.

no, the argument insomniak made was that an adult board would draw the adults away from the other two boards like the pied piper leaving no one posting there but youngsters of whom insomniak has a disturbingly low opinion. it would just be another option available to posters. the idea that an adult board would keep people from posting on the existing boards is just dumb.

i mean look at all the people on this thread alone who have already gone on record as saying they would not be interested in availing themselves of such a board if it were to exist. are ya calling them liars? or are you putting them in the same category as those kids for whom you have such contempt?

life is unfair. so the adults might have a place to go and curse and talk about ****ing and sucking without the asterisks and ask questions without worrying that you're corrupting someone and the kids can't join them. whoop dee damn do. i hope all of you who managed to churn up all this indignation about a message board apply that same passion to the world in which you live and i hope that world is not just broadwayworld.

Well then, why don't we just add a 'Homosexuals Only Board,' a 'Heterosexuals Only Board,' a 'WASP's Only Board'....same principle...making a board for the sole reason of inclusion and exclusion.

I haven't expressed contempt for kids here. And be honest- have you posted as much in the main board since the creation of the OT board? I doubt it. Your social circle (and heck, mine, too) mostly stays here. When people express a concern that the truly adult adults will abandon this board for the new one, you're being complimented, papalovesmambo. If the adults who make the migration are mostly the kind who act like babies but disguise it with "sophisticated" banted, I won't give a crap. It'll only be an improvement. But if the adults I respect all go, I'll be really disappointed- in them as well as in the situation.

The reverse is true for me. I'm a Main Board person -- I come to BWW to discuss theatre, not politics (I have friends in the real world for that). I'm rarely on the OT Board anyway, so adding another non-Theatre Board won't matter much to me since I wouldn't join (certainly not for a fee). That said, I enjoy the contributions and perspectives of several of the under-18 members and think that any board excluding them would not be as interesting a place to spend time.

After reading this entire thread, I really don't know what to say or where to begin.

When I think of all the younger posters on this board who contribute so much to intelligent conversations (theatre related and non-theatre related) I could never in good faith support an adult board.

One final question. Does anyone know if this "brilliant" idea is supported by BWW Admin. ...or is the brainchild of Jose?
A simple answer( god, please) will do then I'm outta this one.

If it's another msg. board hosted by BWW, I'd be real surprised. Messages boards make no moola and moderators are scares enough as is.

If this is a Jose project, is it cool to hash it out here? Take it to e-mail, or pm to market this idea or just start your own board. It's turned into another endless debate on pros and cons of a new board on an old board. Age discrimnation, stalking minors, reading what's not really there. Way to Go! Remind me again what the D button is really for?

And Papa, you'd better be joking...you really don't want to go there. LOL!

what would make you think i am joking? i think that it's only fair to know whether the people with whom we're engaged in conversation are now or were ever under investigation, especially if that investigation involved in any way children. you seem to be indicating certain knowledge in that area.

Sounds like a moneymaking scheme by a power hungry control freak whose QuizMaster title has gone to his head. I really doubt there's as much interest in it as he would like to have people believe.

Having just read the 8 pages that were created after I posted I must say "thank you" to many of the adults out there.
I live in the Pocono Mountains(hick town). There is ONE other student who is interested in theatre at my school. This is the ONLY place I can talk about theatre during the school year.
Sure I make some immature comments every now and then, but which BWW'er doesen't?
I will be 18 in August. After that I will be going to college for my bachelors. After that I will be going to college for my masters. After that I will hit the world trying to make it as an actor. I know my chances of making a lot of money aren't good, and I will not spend my money on something that I already have here.

I just want to say that I think it is darned laudable that this thread created an opportunity for individuals, of all ages, to voice their opinions on a topic of some significance, i.e., the segreation of ages in contemporary American society.
