"In an interview with Fox News, Sarah Palin predictably offered support for Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson, and to bolster her stance she played the "gay friend" card. Referencing her nameless and totally real gay friend, Palin said in a long, rambling run-on sentence:

"In fact, a friend of mine who happens to be gay, she emailed me to say she is outraged at A&E for the hypocrisy here, for the things that they air on their program that she finds offensive, yet A&E doesn't fire a star or somebody involved in their programming based on what they said but they would when it comes to Phil on Duck Dynasty and this friend, she said that she would boycott A&E and that network, and uh, um, she's not the only one."

i have like two or three friends who may or may not be gay. well, they at least own some festive slacks. but all of them were offended by what the beard-o said. as were the colored people who live on the other side of the tracks. so it's unanimous. he should be flayed alive.

There's no way A&E couldn't make this come out like a publicity stunt.

Before A+E announced its reversal on Robertson’s suspension and plans for a PSA campaign aimed at promoting tolerance, GLAAD and NAACP were apprised of the cabler’s decision

But he doesn't. He thinks Blacks were happier under Jim Crow, he thinks gays are comparable to bestiality, terrorism, etc. What kind of PSA are you going to run?

This was nothing but a publicity stunt from the git-go, and we all have been played fer fools.

Our outrage? They were counting on it. They SCRIPTED it. We were the unpaid stars of their reality show.

Not making stupid people famous begins with us. We have to develop the ability NOT to be outraged by stupid people, the ability to ignore stupid people.

Otherwise they win. Like they did here.

As I said once before, this is not different then Fox killing off Brian. Only Brian stayed dead for what, two episodes? Never watched the show, never plan to. I despise these scripted reality programs. I cannot believe people think they are real!
For a "Reality Program" on Animal Planet, I was hired to create fake vanity plates for a truck. It took 4 writers to decide just the perfect vanity plate.

Apparently, Duck Dynasty feels A&E owes them an apology.(and Judging by A&E's actions, I am sure they will apologize and give everyone a huge raise, because they are spineless cowards!)

The petition -- which also calls on A&E to formally apologize to Robertson, his family and the show's millions of viewers -- says the reality star's comments "are simply reflective of a Biblical view of sexuality, marriage and family – a view that has stood the test of time for thousands of years and continues to be held by the majority of Americans and today's world as a whole."

The letter reads: "While the LGBT community may be offended by his opposing viewpoint, your rash, discriminatory, and unfair treatment toward Mr. Robertson -- a recognized symbol of the faith community -- is a slap in the face to Faith Driven Consumers and everyday Americans alike."

They'll apologize for the same reason the have decided to un-suspend this odious and hateful, and ignorant man: because the vast majority of people who watch a show about hillbillies are probably of the same mind as the Robertsons.

For the record I don't think this was pre-planned. I am amazed it took so long for Phil's opinions to cause controversy however.

Remember when TLC was The Learning Channel? Now, all they air is reality TV. It's basically a sideshow.

Floundering networks jump on the reality TV bandwagon because it's the least amount of effort and cost, but could pay off enormously.

I am surprised his remarks about homosexuality are getting more attention than his racial comments. I'm still trying to figure out WTF this guy was doing giving an interview to GQ. Does this guy or any of his idiotic followers look like they read GQ?

My guess is A&E are just hoping this whole thing will blow over and be forgotten in a few weeks. I really think A&E should lose some big sponsors over this or somehow get the message that what they did was not done for nothing but greed. Problem is the 'other side' is crazier,louder,radical, and more rabid then we are.
