Is ignoring evidence part of the character of contemporary culture? The researcher who demonstrated that DARE grads were more likely to use drugs than those who didn't go through the program received death threats. Part of this, of course, is because there was so much money involved in the counter-productive program. But does it play to the anti-science part of the national psyche? DARE and stop and frisk *feel* like it should work, damn all evidence to the contrary.

Namo, I'm glad you said that, because I was just coming to post that the other interesting thing the data shows is that although black and hispanic men are vastly more likely to be stopped and frisked, white men are more likely to be carrying weapons and drugs.

An NYPD bust that took $750,000 worth of heroin off the Washington Heights streets would not have been possible without stop-and-frisk, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said yesterday.“On Saturday, a man threw a duffel bag into the trunk of a double-parked car in Washington Heights,” Kelly said. “When officers approached the man, he ran — that’s suspicious behavior.”

Not that you guys have an open mind but catcing drugs are also what is helped by frisk. Also you'll notice that the cops in this case are black and hispanic....oops there goes your racism charges.
