I REALLY wanted Matt to be the Paul Wylie of this Olympics!
I like his LP, but "The Mission" is not my favorite piece of music......despite the fact that I have it. I LOVED how happy he looked when he landed his second triple axel. They mentioned Law School in the fall for Matt, and I couldn't think anything other than this means he's going to retire. It actually makes me kinda sad. But true to Paul Wylie form! Maybe he will decide to stay in competition after his first Olympics and continue to the next one. Matt will be about the same age as Paul was too & and then go to law school like Paul did! Nice Thought!
But he really could have been Paul at this Olympics too. Such a silly mistake in the SP. I mean, Jeffrey Buttle doesn't have a quad......or at least one that he can land!
I'm not sure what to think about that rule about getting points for making the revolutions in the air, but not landing it. On some ways I like it, but other ways I disagree.
But Honestly, I'm not really sure that they has to defend Plushenko's Win. He did "deserve" to win by his jumps, but he didn't do it the way an Olympic Champion should. Evgeny has always been critized for his artistry, but atleast he showed something. Remember his 2001 "Once Upon a Time in America" Routine that he used to win the WC? I liked that routine.
But not these routines. However, if he did his short program to music that suited it, then it would be fine because his big footwork sequence was impressive. It was just completely in contrast to his music. Who knows why the Plushenko team didn't do so.
Really I miss the old Plushenko, I don't like this married one!
Call me Crazy but I miss his flashy costumes, well sorta of. And I miss him doing the Bielmann spin!

Thinking about the Men's event, it makes me think about the pairs event and what I said about it. That the winner in 2002 could still beat the winner this year.
And thinking about the 2002 Olympics and this new code, it makes me wish that Timothy Goebel was able to return to his top form. I think it would have treated his well! 3 Quad jumps and 2 triples axels, 1 of each in combination.
And speaking of Matt retiring, it's sad that Timmy is too! Although, it kinda feels like he has been already, just due to the fact that he hasn't done as well as he could have done.
Barbara and Maritzio are in 1st! I LOVE this team, but since when is ice dancing so kind to people who take a break from the sport? The exception being Torville and Dean.
I'm upset that Tanith and Ben are in sixth.
The good thing to remember is what they are really close and being close and in 6th in this system is no as bad as being in 6th in the old system by a long shot! Still I would be disappointed if Ice Dancing betrayed it's past and the reining world silver medalist didn't medal!
I just read about the 1984 Ice Dance team and how they lost the bronze by a fraction of a point.
My dream podium would be Tanith and Ben, Barbara and Maritzio and Margarita and Polivas. But Obviously the Russians will be up there! So if I had to take one team out, I guess it would be the Lithuaians......tear.
Looking ahead, all these teams up there with Tanith and Ben should be retiring really soon, so they should dominate the next 4 years!

The top 8 are so close in Ice Dancing that I can't wuz robbed anyone.
IMO, Tanith and Ben deserved their placment...if not lower because stupid NBC refused to show Delobel and Schoenfelder! They looked pretty juniorish out there in the CD, IMO. Clearly slower than the top teams, and I kept screaming for Tanith to point her freakn' toes and dont' forcer her leg extentions so much. The CDs are not their strengths. The ODs and FDs are.
Navka and Kostomorov were really fast, had beautiful line, and looked like champs, but they were also scratchy and sorta rushed therefore a bit off-beat.
Fusar Poli and Margalio had the presence! However, I found her leg line to be icky. But Barbara could beat Elena Grushina as the best single lady ice dancer out there.
Grushina and Gonchorav weren't too hot but good enough.
Denkova and Stavynski totally owned that dance. I'm so glad that the judges, are seemingly not dumping them! Thank Dog! If they had Navka leg line, they would've done even better.
Dubrieul and Lauzon were on as well. So fast and easy and flowed so well. It looked effortless. They had a bit of space between them though.
Drobiazko and Vanagas were fast and good as well, but were missing something. They looked a bit tight to me. Margarita got so pretty. She looks gorgeous and Povilas always looks so elegant.
I thought DomShabs (the second ranked Russian team) were so on and should've been higher than Belbin and Agosto.
Well compulsory dances aren't my strenght either! As I find it hard to see errors in them.
Except for the one that Grishuk and Platov did at the Olympics in 1998, but that didn't seem to matter too much.
BTW, did they just do one compulsory dance? I thought that they usually did 2 compulsory dances.

They used to do two, but for some reason they're only doing one at the Olympics now.
People are scared that they're planning doing away with them in the future and people are hating because compulsories have everything to do with ice dancing. Unlike the compulsory figures for free skating, the compulsories for ice dancing is the back bone.
i miss the days of the OSP! and for those of you who don't know what that is ... ORIGINAL SET PATTERN dance ... they created their OWN ORIGINAL set pattern dance and repeated it three times. i used to LOVE to see what each team came up with. i vividly remember TORVILL & DEAN's OSP in 84 ... the matadore and the cape ... brilliant!
Some of the higher level CD's came from different teams' OSP's from way back when, didn't they? I seem to remember that for some reason. I don't know if it still happens, but I had friends that still did OSP's when they were skating at the intermediate level.
at the risk of beating an already dead horse ...
PLUSHY received higher component marks than any other skater in these areas:
TRANSITIONS/LINKING FOOTWORK (includes entrances and exits of elements)
CHOREOGRAPHY (includes distribution of highlights, conformity to music)
INTERPRETATION/TIMING (includes interpretation of music)
of all the top men, he should have gotten the LOWEST scores in these areas! (and everyone knows it)
omg! i've never seen so many spills in an ice dancing competition!
the worse injury was the one maurizio got from barbara's staredown!
and some of those costumes DESERVED to be smeared across the ice ...

Man! Babs was going to kill Maurizio aka Two-Feetzio.
I LOVE ICE DANCE.
Isn't it funny that right now, ice dancing may be the MOST FAIRLY JUDGED event in these games so far?
I know ladies is still ahead, but I expect undeserved PCS marks for Irina Slutskaya in the SP and making it impossible for anyone to catch up.
but i have a feeling N&K will win, regardless of what actually happens in the freedance.

I know cturtle, but it seems to be the most fair event in figure skating so far.
I can't believe I fell asleep!! I missed Tanith and Ben. Grrr. I know that falls used to be pretty rare in dancing, but I think it means that they're really up-ing the level of technique. When your feet are that twisted together, being in unison is really important. I also had that thought of dancing being the most fairly judged event so far this year. I guess it's partly because there are no jumps to mess with the scoring.
I'm thinking that the scoring system will (needs to) go through some changes in the near future. I'm hoping the women's competition will be more exciting than the men's.
I'm just hoping to see a program that isn't jump, jump, jump, jump, spin, spin, spin, spin, footwork, footwork, finish.
JLSatUD, you forgot a jump towards the end of the program. Remember you get more points per jump after the halfway mark!
Very true. :) And it's girls this time, so we'll hear Dick Button talk alllllll about their layback spins.
And about how sick he is of seeing girls lift their legs up over their heads
And for every axel they do we'll hear about that "treacherous forward edge" :)
I'm kind of curious as to what kind of marks Irina receives if she falls. In other words, how "fair" will these judges be to the 2005 World Champion and someone who has done so well all season.
I hope it stays fair ... I thought the ladies event was pretty fair last time, because of Michelle not winning. Sarah was not necessarily better than Michelle all the time, but the judges were willing to admit that on the night of that long program Sarah had done it.
I desperately want Sasha to win a medal, even if it isn't gold. Her skating is so heart-achingly beautiful. In this age of jumps and spins, one misses that level of artistry on the ice.
and the "bent leg" position in the layback spin.
