I believe the correct pattern is:
Jump, jump, jump, jump, spin, footwork, spin, footwork, jump, jump, spin, finish.

OMG. FALL FALL FALL FALL! On Olympic Ice this little boy as a Question if there were going to be more falls and Dick was like, "Well not too many in the Ice Dance!"
Boy was he wrong!
I LIKE THE NEW CODE IN ICE DANCE! Because it's really going to produce a top team, for the most part, and it's where it really needed to be. So I like this in the Ice Dance!
Those falls were a direct result of that new code.
I counted the Lithuians, Both Italians, The top Canadians all falling. Didn't the Bulgarians fall too? And I kinda want to think the top Ukrainians G&G fell too!
Anyways, I'm glad to Tanith and Ben! Now they are up where they should be!
Since I guess "falls were in the air", I WAS NOT Suprised to see Maritzio fall with Barbara. It's been said that he struggles and even fell at the last Olympics, so I was like "it's going to happen to them" and it did. I felt sorry for him because Barbara is mean! That's the impression I get anyway! She probably tore him up afterwards! It's actually really unfortunate because I feel that Barbara Fusar-Poli is the single best ice dancing female competing right now.
Tracy Wilson really said it when she said in all her years of competing and watching Ice Dance she NEVER saw a team go from 1st in the CD to 10 in the OD!
It is me, or did anyone else like the OD's from the 2002 Olympics better? Yes, I know the tempo and dance style changes every year so it just depends. But the tempos and dance styles in 2002 also evoked a latin theme. Anyways, I just enjoyed that a whole lot better. TOO MUCH Techno Music type stuff, IMO. I like more classic, lyrical stuff like the stuff in 2002! I LOVED Marina and Gwendal's OD at those Olympics!
That's one thing I HATE about college gymnastics, the fact that they all insist on doing their FX routines to hip-hop and techno music! I swore if I heard another routine to Missy Elliots "Get Your Freak On!", I wasn't going to watch anymore!......back to skating!
I CAN'T WAIT for the Free Dance Tonight!

I'm starting to think that SI's prediction of the Olympic Podium being
Sasha
Irina
and Shizuka
may come true......though the order may change!
Let me defend Irina, because I LOVE this skater and want her to do well!
First of all, you can't compare her to the other Russian Gold Medalist, T&M and Plushenko......well I guess you can.
She may "play the code" or however you say it, but so does everyone else! Your stupid not to! However, Irina skates with her heart on her sleeve, she has a heart! Her individual style may be different from Sasha Cohen's and Michelle Kwan's, but Irina does have a style and it has improved.
That doesn't mean I don't like Sasha, because I DO! I'm just really torn because I love them both! But Show some Irina love too!

MTVMANN, you make a very good case for Irina, but for some reason I've never warmed to her. I'd like to see Sasha win the gold and possible Kimmie for the bronze.
If Emily Hughes comes even close to medaling, we'll all have to deal with the Michelle backlash (i.e., she never should have been named to the team in the first place, etc.)
#629Figure Skating Chat
Posted: 2/20/06 at 2:43pmI'd rather see Emily Medal than Kimmy. Not sure why though! BTW, If Emily is consistant, and she looks like she is, then she will come close!

Gee, thanks Albin. I figured this thread would be safe as we more or less have been respecting others and not posting the results, SPOILERS OR NO SPOILERS until after the event has aired on the west coast!

"Figure Skating" also means "Ice Dancing" in NBC Olympics lingo. You want to look for the Women's "Free Style Skate."

Funny that I just spent the last 30 minutes talking with a friend online about Les Miz while simultaneously looking up clips from the 1991 Paris Revival Cast.
And what do the French team skate to? Les Miserables...the Paris Revival Cast. Loved it.

For the FD, I would've had it:
Delobel/Schoenfelder, Nakva/Kostomorov, Belbin/Agosto, Denkova/Stavynski, Chait/Sakakhovsky, Drobiazko/Vanagas, Dom/Shabalin and Grushina/Goncharov in that order.
However, in terms of enjoyment:
Delobel/Schoenfelder, Denkova/Stavynski, Belbin/Agosto, Chait/Sakakhovsky, Domabin/Shabalan, Drobiazko/Vanagas, Navka/Kostormorov in that order. I didn't enjoy Grushons or Fusar-Poli at all. Well, I did enjoy Fusar-Poli but more for soap opera antics than what was in the actual dance.
I hate that Grushina and Goncharov are the Olympic bronze medalists...Delobel/Schoenfelder were robbed of that BRONZE!
Congrats to Navka and Porky because they did what they needed to do to win, and congrats to Tanith and Ben aka the first American medalists in ice dance in 30 years. They rocked that FD, better than they did all season despite small errors.
BTW, about Ladies.
The reason why I really dislike Irina's skating is that she's so overmarked and she should not be invincible. There are other skaters that jump high and are fast and have the edge quality she has. I enjoy Irina Slutskaya's skating and I don't doubt that at her best, she should beat the other ladies (including Sasha Cohen) because of her great basic skating skills and great speed and power. However her overmarking is so ridiculous that she can easily win with 3 triple programs and it's is making me hate her skating even more than I used to.
I also HATE HATE HATE how she makes even the easiest moves look like WORK. The brilliant thing about Michelle Kwan is that she made the most difficult moves look effortless and easy. Irina makes things look hard and people translate that as working harder and doing harder things therefore she should be scored high. I don't think any other skater from another country would have gotten away with her extreme lack of polish and one-dimensional presentation.

This ice dance pair...the ones who had a flub a couple nights ago...and now aren't talking to each other.
AMAZING. Their pettiness makes me laugh. I hope their children do as momma says and not as she does.
