episode two:
WHAT IS THIS FEELING?
SOMETHING BAD
DANCING THROUGH LIFE
we re-watched the olympics exhibition the other night. my man pointed out that sasha skated that great number to DON'T RAIN ON MY PARADE with NO jumps! (unless you count a russian split.) what an exciting, energetic, jam-packed program, even without the jumps! just goes to show ya ...
next year sasha should do a bouncy upbeat number for one of her competition programs. perfect for her! and a nice contrast to her balletic style program, which she also does brilliantly.

Two very different people!
Oh, and it's official
Irina, Shizuka, Mao and Michelle will all not be the WC's for various reasons.
So if Sasha can not get it together and win with their absence, then I don't know what!

There's an unconfirmed rumor that Sasha won't be at Worlds, which is why Katy Taylor skipped Junior Worlds so she could prepare for Senior Worlds.

Yu Na Kim beat Mao Asada at Jr. Worlds with a huge margin! And with a score that would've beaten Sasha's LP score in Torino and would've placed her 4th overall.
Yu Na Kim vs. Mao Asada might be the new Michelle Kwan vs. Tara Lipinski in terms of pure competitiveness.
Why isn't Irina going to be at Worlds?

Ice skating is really cool! I go to the local rink every Sunday with my friends, but I never realized how much I loved it until today! My passion was singing... But when I learned how to spin without faltering, and to skate on one leg, that I realized ice skating is my passion! XD I'm looking into taking lessons... Is it as expensive as it's implied in movies?
You can have two passions! Skating can be expensive, but for you just starting out, it really shouldn't be that big of a deal.
i heard a skating parent say once that skating was like pouring money down a hole.
Skating is like pouring money down a hole. Buts it has gotten better, now i have to pay only around $500(cdn) for ice time and about $150 (cdn) for a coach a month and then a dance coach and skills coach on top of that.
But i have good news, i have been skating since i was about 4 and now im turning 16, a long time. BUT LAST TUESDAY I LANDED MY DOUBLE FLIP :)
ave_maria you should try more its alot of fun.

Irina decided to retire from eligible skating. She wants to be a mommy. There was some talk about her going to Worlds despite the fact she wasn't listed for it nor was she a listed alternate. However, she cannot go to Worlds because when she did decide to compete, it was too late to put her name on the official list.
That's sad about the WC situation and that she can't go out on a bang by Winning Worlds......Which I have confidence that she would have won. I'm also sad that she's retiring, but she has nothing to hang her head about! 2 World Titles, Olympic Silver Medalist, Olympic Bronze Medalist, 3 World Silver Medals, 1 World Bronze, 7 time European Champion. I'll really miss watching her!
I also believe that Russia's other Olympic Champions are retiring!
Including Plushenko! No matter what you can say about his skating, he WAS THE ONLY ONE to skate TWO clean programs & he had the Most difficult Jumps out there too. He deserved that title. I can understand skippping these WC's, but retire all together......it's just WAY TOO SOON!
T&M, well I guess I can understand if they retire but I think they should have at least competed at these WC's because they are SO FAR above all the other teams(save a healthy Shen and Zhou)that they could have easily won. It's another MAJOR title that they could have on their resumes. I think she should have kept going to at least the WC's, if not more, but I guess they don't want to.
Same thing with Navka and Kostomorov. I kind of welcome this retirment, I guess, but still I think they should have at least competed at these WC's for the same reason as T&M, if they skated clean, they would have won. Not that they are ahead of the field in the way that T&M are, but as the winners of the last 3 major competitions in Ice Dance, you all know how the game works. Even though the new code is better, I still think they would have beaten Tanith and Ben.
all this "retiring" is going to make for a very fun/insteresting worlds
i think doing all those quads has taken it's toll on plushy's body, as happened with yagudin ... one of the big reasons i'm not a fan of quads.
USFSA posted the World Team on their website, and Sasha is listed. Someone mentioned earlier that they thought she wouldn't be there.
yay! this is definitely SASHA's year to become world champ!
Any of you catch The Cutting Edge 2 last night? I'm watching my tape now. I absolutely loved the first one ... still one of my favorite movies. This one is fine, but it's not the original. An amusing amount of parallel scenes though. Overall, it's fine ... but I'm missing Moira Kelly and DB Sweeney! Also making giggle is the fact that in the original they were doing moves that were too hard to do in real life and in this one you can tell they barely know what they're doing. Not to mention the whole skating with spotlights in the dark at Nationals thing! :)
cturtle, I saw you on the usfsa message board :)
Yes, I did catch the Cutting Edge 2! I own the first one! I liked that they kept the "toe pick" line in.
Yeah I do notice that they always use the exhibition lighting for the competitions! They even did that on Ice Princess and that movie was supposed to be very "with it" as far as figure skating stuff goes! This movie wasn't! Like asking the girl how her 3 axel was! Gimme a break! And just like the first one this team comes out of no where to win the Olympic Games! Or atleast we think they win!
I do have to admit that the split 3 twist/3 toe loop combination thing was really cool, though it was funny that they made it so spontaneous! I wonder if something like that is even possible? My guess is no!
they used the same "exhibition lighting" effect in the gymnastics movie AMERICAN ANTHEM, and it was supposed to be competition scenes. it was ridiculous. ok, the entire movie was ridiculous ... but worth it to see MITCH!

I liked Ice Princess, I thought it was delightfully corny! It did bother me, though, how some of the skaters used music w/ lyrics for competition. It's little things like that (and the exhibition lighting) that make skating movies, well... movies, I guess.
Does anyone remember the skating movie starring Nicholle Tom as a reincarnated hockey player? I think it premiered on ABC/Fox Family... Ice Angel it's called, I guess. And Tara Lipinski was in it too! I forgot she was in that...
Anywho, the triple axel scene was just so unrealistic. They cut from the skating double, probably doing a double axel, to a slow motion shot of Nicholle magically rotating in the air... classic.
ICE CASTLES is another movie that was totally lame when it came to authenticity. but robbie bensen was so cute
oh i DO like that sappy song.
"please, don't let this feeling end ..."
