"It must be awful to be locked into essentially an iron-clad setlist. My favorite post-punk band has never played the same set twice. It must be really satisfying for musicians to have breathing room."
I could see her band getting frustrated, but I doubt madonna hersle wwoulf like to have a setlist she didn't have planned down to the last middle finger. But that spontaneity of a good rock show is definitely missing from these theatrical pop concerts, though some acts manage to compromise.
It's typical of Madonna to highlight her last album, flop or not--for all the talk about her Reinvention Tour being the greatest hits, it still was basically her American Life concert. the last two tours I saw I did find it amusing to see all the primarily casual, middle aged fans going out of nostalgia looking baffled at the new songs--but I guess flop or not she'd be less bored than always doing her GHs.
The main WTF moment for me is Candy Shop. I've heard she wanted it to be a single, but it's just such a crappy song--and one I don't know many fans of even among her most devoted fans.
I'm still looking froward to the concert, and I hgave much more excitement than Sticky and Sweet, although at the moments I'm more excited to see Scissor Sisters again (although I was more excited to see them after Night Work--this new album is maybe more fun, but less interesting, but should translate well live). As for all the Orbit stuff, I admit I find it downright bizarre that some of his Madonna material will end up sung on a... Chris Brown CD. Sigh.
