Gary Oldman defends Mel Gibson and Alec Baldwin's behaviors.

His presence in a movie is enough to make me not want to see it. I actually liked the most recent Planet of the Apes movie, but I'll be skipping the next one because a) I am over franchises; and 2) I just have a visceral negative response to Gary Oldman.

Oldman's the real problem for me -- I think he's one of the greatest living actors, but his politics and statements like he's just released are just repulsive. I'll continue seeing his work, but I'm very grateful that I don't know him personally.

I like that he conflates Gibson hurling abusive insults at a cop who was arresting him for drunk driving with not being able to "take a joke."

the answer is on the last page of his interview, where he states he leans libertarian.
libertarians believe in freedom, including the freedom of the majority to make any minorities miserable.

I have less of a problem with his comments than I anticipated before I clicked the link. Given his libertarian leanings, I think his comments are more about hypocrisy than condoning anything.

I know he's had some, um, missteps...but is Alec Baldwin really now in the same league as Mel Gibson?

I mean, who hasn't gotten drunk and blamed all war on the Jews?

Don't we need our posters on the right and left to come together and bemoan about the PC police?

I don't trust ANYBODY who uses the term "too PC" because it most often belies shallow thinking and an implied agreement on what the empty phrase means.

I actually forgot about Alec Baldwin's f-- incident when I made my earlier post, not that anyone remotely cares.

Well apparently Gary hated himself in Fifth Element--and in basically anything else popular. "PLAYBOY: Really? You don’t like Sid & Nancy?
OLDMAN: I don’t like myself in the movie, no. Frankly, I didn’t want to make it in the first place. I was talked into it at the time. And now, if I flip through the channels and come upon it, it’s “F*CK! Sid & Nancy,” and off it goes. I don’t think I played Sid Vicious very well. I don’t like the way I look in Prick Up Your Ears. I wasn’t the right person to play Beethoven and turned it down half a dozen times.
PLAYBOY: The Dark Knight? Harry Potter?
OLDMAN: It was work.
PLAYBOY: Uh, The Fifth Element?
OLDMAN: Oh no. I can’t bear it. "

I agree with Oldman, he's ****e!!! But even he would have to acknowledge that he's a distant second in the all time greatest Lost in Space's Dr. Smiths.
