The NEW WORLD STAGES attendant programming...hotties who love theatre. Musical Mondays at SPLASH.
Will: They don't give out awards for helping people be gay... unless you count the Tonys.

Hey,
What types of places do you enjoy?
As far as bars, I would definitely suggest Therapy and Industry - right across from each other on 52nd St in Hells Kitchen. Delta Grill serves some amazing cajun food and Vynl is a must-see diner.. Central Park should be in bloom and the South Street Seaport is one of my favorite places.. Obviously I suggest exploring the Village since it is an important part of queer history and ueer Peer at the end of Christopher St probably won.t be busy, but boys will be out and enjoying the weather... The Brooklyn Promenade is a fantastic spot with an amazing view as well..

Posh is also a fun bar gay over in Hell's kitchen. Haven't been to Barrage in a while but I like it there also.
@Tx, What is the New World Stages thing? Is that the Time Out lounge thing?

The West Side of Manhattan is pretty gay.. Hell's Kitchen, Chelsea, West Village. If you walk from Christopher Street to 55th (or vice versa), you'll get a lot of gay.
I personally don't like Splash. I prefer places that are a little, um, classier... Industry and Vlada are fun. Definitely check out Stonewall, at least for history. And while it's definitely not classy, Marie's Crisis is a fun piano bar.

The Monster is fun too - right across the street from Stonewall. It's like the best of both worlds - upstairs is an old-school piano bar (like Marie's Crisis) and downstairs there's a dance floor (like The Ritz or Posh).

yep the Time Out lounge stuff...they are really steppin up programming....and i know the New World manager, he is determined to have good programming for the "community". Plus their shows themselves tend to have that kinda sensibility, some high modern camp....
u may also want to just check out the many charity events that touch on both the gay and theatre communities....maybe the bar rag NEXT (or is HK or whatever still around?) has a website. For instance, i'm going to the B'way Beauty pageant for chorus boys later this month, a really good cause and nice eye candy.
also besides the historic Christopher Street area, i love Rainbow and Triangles bookstore on Eighth Ave, forget which cross street. Nice staff and fun merchandise, since Big Cup coffeehouse closed in that vicinity, kind of a social hub too....

thanks everyone for the responses. I am now debating which shows to see. Right now I'm interested in seeing Priscilla, How To Succeed and Phantom. I really know little about 'How To...' but am interested merely because of Daniel Radcliffe (I've never had an interest in the show itself.) With 'Priscilla' I've seen the film, and the show seems like its just fun (pricey damn tickets, too.) Lastly, I've seen 'Phantom' twice both times when I was in elementary school, and I feel like if I have the chance to see it on Broadway(I saw it during its San Fran stay) do it. I think I am going to have to choose only two of them since theater tickets can become expensive. Do you think seeing 'How To...' is worth spending 300 on just for Daniel? Should I skip 'Phantom' since I saw it 15 years ago and can always watch the fairly faithful film version? Or do I skip 'Priscilla' and go with the other two? Thanks for the help!

They are running a special on How To Succeed tickets, where no matter what price you pay, you get to see the rest of the cast and the musical as well as Daniel Radcliffe.

if u really have a desire to see PHANTOM again, i'd suggest waiting until the one in Vegas. Nothing against the B'way production or cast, but the Vegas one is in a specially built theatre with great effects, and is shorter (ninety minutes) which suits that show fine. There won't be many chances to see Radcliffe live, on the other hand. There are many great shows in NYC right now, many also at the TKTS booth or on the TDF website, so without offending anyone (hopefully) i'd say let the tourists keep PHANTOM going and see something else.

My friend and I got tickets to 'How to Succeed...' We're very excited to see it. Anybody know how far the 'gay area' is from gramercy park? Or any good gay bars within that area? Also, can someone tell me exactly how you do rushs or student rushs? I'm confused on it. Thanks again!

You know, there's an app for that. Gay Scout, and Gay Cities for two. You turn the location service on and it will tell you how few feet you are from gay this and gay that. Also, be sure to do a non-gay thing or two.

I definitely recommend Marie's Crisis, but don't go on Friday/Saturday. It's packed.

I agree with Namo, there are some great non-gay things to do. Walk Central Park, go to MoMA or other museums, etc.

Or to gay THOSE up, walk through the Ramble, turn on GRINDR while in MoMA and hit the men's rooms in other museums!

of course we will be doing non-gay stuff, but both of us previously have been to NYC, and have done all the tourist attractions. That's why I wanted to see more of the gay life in NYC. We need a vacation from West Hollywood!

If you're interested in gay history, fvck an old guy. Im guessing you guys are young and oh so hip, "I'm the Carrie and I'm the Samantha" type of guys so sticking to Chelsea and Hells Kitchen is your safest bet so's you don't run into any breeders.

Jordan--if they're 23, they may be thinking "Who are Carrie and Samantha?"
Guys--you're 23 and gay and coming to NY, determined to have fun? The world will be your oyster.
Just remember 3 things:
1. The Bronx is up.
2. The Battery's down.
3. ALWAYS play safe.

LURVIN the irony of someone with Jordan Catalano (le sigh) as an avatar advocating (there's an appropro word) SCRUFF. But i wholeheartedly agree....

Bartini is a fun bar on 10th Ave in the mid-40s (I think). They used to have "show tune" night once a week, but don't know if they still do.
You should definitely see Priscilla, Queen of the Desert ... it is a chocolate ice cream sundae with mounds of whipped cream and sprinkles. Very fun, very gay, very camp. And Tony Sheldon's brilliant performance as Bernadette is amazing.

As fellow traveler,I always enjoy going to Barrage before or after one of my shows. Always friendly bartenders and crowd.

From the clips, Priscilla looks much more like a vanilla ice cream sundae to me.
If *I* needed a vacation from West Hollywood, I'd be walking away from gay things.
