Well this is ridiculous:
Heinz Co. has pulled a British TV ad for mayonnaise that showed two men kissing. The ad for Heinz Deli Mayo depicted a kitchen scene involving two children, a father and a male deli cook with a New York accent, whom the children addressed as "Mum." At the end of the ad, the cook kisses the father as he leaves for work. The Advertising Standards Authority said it received 202 complaints about the ad. Heinz said the ad was withdrawn because of "consumer feedback" and apologized if it had offended anyone. It apparently offended Fox News host Bill O'Reilly, who complained during his show, The O'Reilly Factor, "I just want mayonnaise. I don't want guys kissing." British gay rights group Stonewall said it was shocked Heinz had yanked what it called an "innocuous" ad and urged gay consumers to boycott the company.

GAY!
why are the british people so homophobic?
No, Bill, you want a lot more than mayonnaise. Tahini, perhaps?

Am I the only one who thinks this commercial was created just to be pulled? They have received so much coverage worldwide about this ad.....
Deja vu?
202 complaints out of a population of 60 million?
That isn't a large percentage.
JoeKv99 has it sussed.
That's a great ad. It's sad Heinz pulled it. Like Scripps said, 202 complaints in comparison to the entire British population? Smaaaall percentage.

I'm offended too. Everyone knows mayonnaise isn't gay, it's bi-sexual.
Word, well phrase, to the Brits: Homophobia is gay.
Yeah, something is odd about only 202 people getting an ad pulled. Why do I have a hunch it will come back?
P.S.: Top Mum is smokin' hot.

And check out this clip from the British chat show "The Wright Stuff", where the clip and controversy is discussed. I don't know who the panelists are (excepting Jerry Springer). Springer is great, and the bald gal and the African-British guy are fabulous. And Mr. Wright rips the first caller a new one.

"202 complaints out of a population of 60 million?"
It doesn't matter how many complaints there were. If the Queen picks up the phone and says "I don't want gays and mayonnaise in the same commercial" then Heinz pulls the ad.
I hadn't actually seen the ad when I posted earlier in the week but now that I have I don't think it is gay at all. Heinz is placing itself (via the Deli guy) as a metaphor for the mother role in a British home.
The opinionated and argumentative guy on the left obviously doesn't understand metaphor (and doesn't know how to debate either).
Why have I seen nothing on British TV about this?
Somehow, I don't think the Queen was involved...
There is a HUGE campaign from the U.K. gay community to put Heinz' feet to the fire over this.
Betcha it gets put back on within the month.
As I posted in the other thread about this advert it isn't a gay kiss, as Scripps2 says it is a metaphor - the Deli Guy is the mum.
Turquoisefish: Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it!
At first I didn't see it, but now that you mention it, it is really obvious that it is a metaphor, not a gay kiss. Stupid blind homophobes.
