It's election day, everybody. Left, Right or Center, please take the time to exercise the franchise which makes our Nation a beacon of hope around the world--and possibly on billions of life-supporting planets elsewhere in the galaxy, according to new findings from NASA....
For those of you in NY, there are six ballot questions to be considered. Here's the moderately progressive perspective on these issues from WNYC:
WNYC guide to NY's ballot questions
My choices are a crook (D) and a crackpot (R).
One of the worst gubernatorial races in memory.
That's a drag.
How bad a crook, exactly? And what kind of crackpot? Tea-party? Or just random, colorful, idiosyncratic stuff?

Taz, you just described every single race in the last several years. The political arena has become a joke and I cannot blame those such as Russel Brand who refuse to engage in being forced to choose between two parties. It's not indifference; it's in protest.
I understand the frustration, but leaving the decision to Others is just a terrible idea, in my opinion.
In choosing between a crook and a crackpot, I'd hold my nose and vote the party--in my case Democratic--line. If there were more (D) governors, there would have been fewer states refusing to create their own health care exchanges--just to cite a random example.
I'm in VA, and sadly no - no fun colorful stuff.
The crook (D) is McAuliffe. He has been caught taking bribes for contracts, using inside information, and abusing his position as chairman for the DNC.
the crackpot (R) is Cuccinelli. He's ultra right wing (the kind of ideological extremism that scares people), supports the tea party, and has done nothing but run a campaign based on negative ads.
McAuliffe is going to win.

ETA: just saw your above post Addison and yea, I'm holding my nose and voting Democrat. Because, what else can I do?
In response to Liza's post -
But there are almost always choices beyond the two parties.
True, they usually don't represent a strong chance for a win, but the choice is there.
I never support the position that the choices aren't good so why bother. The best protest is action.
Good point Addy. In fact I was thisclose to voting for the Libertarian. But then I thought of the Pauls and went Dem.
Taz, I usually vote for a party candidate as well, even if I don't love the candidate. (Although I vote both sides of the aisle).
But, to people like Russel Brand who say they don't like the choice so why bother - I say you should be ashamed! There is always a choice.
(Remind me why I care what Russel Brand says?...)

Taz - the Paul family has tainted the libertarian movement. Rand is so inconsistent as to the true definition of freedom.
The contrast is so stark in VA, I hope there is a clear and decisive win!
The race in VA is one for the ages!

Can't wait to have the Virginia race over and done with. Let's hope we never have to hear from Coochie Cuccinelli again.

Done.
I'll vote here in NYC. I always feel such excitement and a rush every time I vote. But I think I am feeling sadder to vote today than at any time since casting my very first vote ever in the 1980 Presidential election (when my young self just couldn't help it and voted for John Anderson).
Done and done! In NYC.
And I plan on using the phrase 'Coochie Cuccinelli' at least five times today!
My vote is cast! (Although, I wish I were still a registered NJ voter so I could cast a vote against Christie)
"And I plan on using the phrase 'Coochie Cuccinelli' at least five times today!"
Apparently a lot of people are!! I can't say I thought that one up myself, but it naturally goes together. Some people are also referring to him as "The Cooch". Either way, he is absolutely vile.
I was surprised when I went to my polling location this morning that it was somewhat busy. Hopefully it's a sign of good turnout all day!
Mine was busy cause the guy running my assembly section was a stubborn idiot. I did get to have a few fun eyerolls with two nuns standing next to me. I love nuns.
as a newly minted US Citizen it is a humbling experience.
NJ voters, just remember that Chris Christie hates teachers and cut library funding as his first official act as Governor.
Christie Christie is "Tired of you people," aka teachers

As an NYC resident for some years, and California resident for many years before that, I'm not entirely knowledgeable on the NJ political landscape aside from the fact that it's a predominantly liberal state. So, I must ask: how is Christie so popular and heavily favored in such a blue state? Especially when he is being portrayed as a monster out to eliminate funding for education? Something doesn't compute. Hope my NJ people can shed some light.
Christie is definitely a better politician than Governor. He won as a stark contrast to Corzine, who eventually was really unpopular. People liked Christie's "frank talk about tough issues". It's New Jersey, remember, so they just love a Governor who does things like call people "Idiot", as he has done repeatedly--describing people who refused to evacuate their homes during Sandy, for example. The Land of Snooki just eats up the pose of the "no-nonsense, tell it like it is" guy.
Like Giuliani on 9/11--Christie did a fantastic job of supporting morale and appearing to feel people's pain during/after Sandy. He promoted an image of himself as doing anything--even hugging a black Democrat--to help the people of New Jersey recover from the storm.
But his actual record as governor is not great. He makes big claims for having helped clean up the state budget, but his numbers are based on the kind of accounting tricks and subterfuge that used to make Albany a laughingstock.
What addison said.
Also, Buono has not been able to get the Corzine stink off of her. She's been a pretty awkward foe to Christie who is touting in his ads two things...he was the hero of Sandy, and Buono is Corzine. People are still angry at Corzine.
