Posted: 12/13/12 at 9:11amI'm surprised that Helen Mirren has been getting nominations for Hitchcock, while Anthony Hopkins hasn't gotten any. I didn't think the movie was anything special, but I did think Hopkins did a very good job as Hitchcock.

Posted: 12/13/12 at 9:17amThe movie category wasn't nearly as infuriating as I expected although the Comedy/Musical category ain't great shakes. But then we get to TV and it is pretty bad. Ed Harris, who was awful in GC, over Aaron Paul, Jared Harris and Giancarlo Esposito? No Mad Men? Smash as a Comedy?

Posted: 12/13/12 at 9:24amLet's hope it's the last time that talentless hack gets recognized for any of his "work".

Posted: 12/13/12 at 9:30amNote: I think the list in the original post is missing supporting actor & actress in TV.

Posted: 12/13/12 at 9:32amIt's not so much Smash as a comedy, but Smash as a musical series. Not that it should have been nominated anyway, over Girls or P&R.

Posted: 12/13/12 at 9:44amSo...between this and the SAG noms, is there a groundswell of support for Kidman as supporting actress? That would tickle me.

(Why are all the posts bold?) Or is it just me...?
Interesting how few broadcast networks shows are nominated.
Interesting there was no Best Director for "Les Miserables".

I don't know anything about "Django" but if anyone has happened to see it, is Kerry Washington's role big enough to warrant a nomination for anything?
I was excited to see Connie Briton get some love for "Nashville".

I wonder if Sally gets a third Oscar, if she'll add a third "really" to her acceptance speech!
"You really, really, REALLY like me now!"
I wouldn't put it past her to riff on that. She's had as much fun with it as the rest of us over the years.

LOL Very true. Plus, she's almost 50 and had a career for nearly as long. She's been around as long as some 75-year-olds in the profession.

Posted: 12/13/12 at 11:37am'Smash' has a talented cast, but it does have inconsistent script writing. I just don't understand why 'Parks & Recreation' gets snubbed all-of-the time. I really enjoyed 'Moonrise Kingdom' and 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' I'm glad to see them get some nominations. I liked 'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen', but I feel that 'Bernie' deserved a nomination more. I'm really happy for Taylor Swift. 'Safe & Sound' is a great song and this must be a nice birthday present for her.

Posted: 12/13/12 at 11:49amI think it's cause she's really quite young for such an award. But as Besty has pointed out, her career is longer than others who have already received it. Plus...she has, from a young age, given gutsy, fascinating performances and has a body of acting work that is really quite varied. Add to that her work as a filmmaker and producer and I think she's an entirely worthy recipient.

I see all the bold too in the first bunch of posts.
Not sure how I feel about Smash. I like the show, but obviously sometimes liking doesn't mean it should be nominated. Though I am laughing at the comments on tvline.com how people are outraged it was nominated over Glee. If Glee was fantastic, I could see that. But, it hasn't been since season 1.

Not hating on the Jodie -- just not seeing that she's really worth a Lifetime Achievement award. Some fine work, no doubt, but surely there are more deserving candidates out there.
And I'll cop to some ongoing disappointment with her absolute adamantine refusal to publicly come out. Unfair to hold that against her when it comes to career recognition things, I guess, but there you go.
