My perception of Foxx's GG speech (which I LOVED) was that he was referring to his agents/manager's? struggles. I'm not up on the agents and managers in the business, but what percentage are black? I would guess low. I would guess that Foxx and these men saw this success as a triumph over some struggles in the business. We don't know what those are--but I gathered that was a personal aside that he was completely allowed to express in HIS speech.
And, I forget which thread someone tried to make the comparison that a white actor wouldn't go on about being proud of being white, but let's be real--we are far from a truly equal society for all people. We've come a long way, but there is much work to be done. And let's not be naive that racism doesn't exist--even in the mostly liberal film and theatre communities. Black people and Brown people and Gay people and many other types of people are still in a place where those adjectives ARE a difference when others make it a difference. And when you have to fight the fight on those adjectives, the successes are also about those adjectives.
It's not to belittle what a straight, white person goes through in life--it's just that aside from rare cases of reverse prejudice, a straight, white person doesn't have to fight based on his (and somtimes her) adjectives.
