Greg Jbara Discussion - ONLY — Page 4

Was Greg really drum major? That would be amazing. Every night at band camp I'm so tempted to just run up on the podium and start conducting. If Greg had actually been drum major that would just be....all the more reason. Follow in his footsteps! I must know! If he was, that could be my reason if people ask me why I want to be drum major.

I was just about to bump this w/ something which I'll get to in a minute...Greg is pretty tall, I'd say at least over 6 feet. I've noticed how short John makes Norbie look(okay some consider him short but as someone who's 5 feet I don't) but I don't remember Greg being much shorter. I think he may be somewhere around 6'1ish". I hate being short...

I was going to bump it b/c I was on google trying to find something specific about DRS and I came across this review on playbill.com on the DRS CD, I'm sure everyone's read it in months past, but I didn't remember it and I thought the quote was great:

"Greg Jbara — best remembered as one of the few bright spots in Victor/Victoria, where he played the gangster star's bodyguard — has reliably given a boost to every director who could figure out what to do with him. O'Brien gives Jbara a basketful of slow burns and a Clouseauian accent; Yazbek gives him a charmingly droll duet with Gleason, "Like Zis/Like Zat." If this one doesn't win you over, to quote the late Mr. Ebb, "you're in the wrong hall tonight."

Remembered as BRIGHT spot. I actually think this describes Greg really well--gives a boost to every director who could figure out what to do with him. I mean he has in him and has done fantastic singing, acting, comedy, voices and dialect, etc. I would love to see a show centered around him so he could get all the credit he already deserves. And I'm sure it would be one heck of a show.

But for now, I'll greatly appreciate him in DRS which I can't stay away from for too long...man, I think it's an addiction.

Well a couple of you have seen Joe Cassidy as Andre, I've heard very good things about him. I saw him as Freddy and while he wasn't quite Norbie who I was used to he did an excellent jobs and friends who had never seen him loved him.

I honestly think we overexaggerate how no one else can play a particular role--there's soo much talent out there, I couldn't see anyone but Idina as Elphaba but her successors have been great and bring a new spin. I think everyone plays a role differnet, and you appreciate everything about what each brings. The successful successors are ones that make the role their own instead of trying to copy the other. I think anyone who tried to play Andre like Greg would be unsuccessful definitely.

yeah, i definately know what you're saying, amamda. cuz i've seen two freddies. so, yeah, diff people playing the same character well is always possible.

i just favor greg as andre, and he'll always be andre in my eyes, lol!

yeah, barb, i was wondering about that too. i checked the familylinks site again, and the lazarus family still isn't listed.

MONDAY NIGHT UPDATE: I got an email from Greg a few minutes ago which said:

"Shere found her friends alive in Houston! They lost everything, but are very much alive!!!"

Thanks to everyone who searched lists, emailed suggestions, prayed, etc. ... It's all very much appreciated!

There was one I think it was a DRS review that mentioned they thought he either looked liked him or reminded them of him. At this point, I like to not think so, haven't liked him much since Passion of the Christ, realized I don't think I like him much at all, def arrogant. And South Park's "Passion of the Jew" which portrayed him as a really scary idiot, can't view him same at all. Greg's much better on all accounts.

*sigh* i LOVE christmas! i love everything about it; the meaning, the giving, the kindness, the love--and his duet will just make it merrier!

plus, Rachel de Benedet is awesome. i love her. and she's gorgeous. :)
