I have a vague recollection of that as well doodle.
I think those and the Old Hands threads were my favorites.
(next to Angry Deer of course)
No, the thread just died a slow death. The COTDs wouldn't or couldn't nominate the next COTD. Shameless spent much time and energy trying to keep it alive.
I remember being so baffled by references to "COTD."
I would love for you to have been a COTD, Reg. Especially if you were chosen on a Friday so you could have had the whole weekend to answer questions.
***sigh***
Oh no, it was really nice. It fostered a sense of community. Most people asked the same questions to each COTD and they weren't trick or loaded questions.
It was all very friendly. I think the site's too big for it to work now.

For right now, I am going to pretend Reg is Celebrity of the Day because I have been dying to ask him some questions. Por ejemplo:
What do you think of gays in the millinery?
I don't see why it wouldn't work now. It actually might bring about some friendlier relations between posters when you know more about them.
I wasn't around for COTD either. I'm not sure how it would work today. We obviously still have good posters, but then there is also still a lot of crazy. Don't need to mention them by name.
That doesn't have anything to do with it. We had crazy posters back then too.
True. I guess I just think certain people like Suestorm would end up ruining it. Though, they haven't been around recently.
Watch out - it is kind of like Beetlejuice.

I don't think there are many people who check here several times a day anymore. Towards the end of CotD there were many people who had completely missed their days and the thing trickled to a stop. At least that's what I remember.
Namo is right. It was dying because everyone had been "it" and folks spent less time here and more on Facebook.
I still remember the final blow was that it was stopped by the mods...but I've been wronger about more important things.

ok, I guess it wouldn't work, Laertes.
I don't know how many active posters were here back in the COTDs days but, I think there is still a sizable group of people who post several times a day, myself included.
"ok, I guess it wouldn't work, Laertes."
Seriously? I'm not sure if that was meant for me as I was only making an opinion, but if you want to start it up again, go ahead. Noone is stopping you. Best of luck.
OMG, doodle. what are you talking about?
After reading the comments that it wouldn't work, I gave in to the probability that it wouldn't. My post wasn't directed towards anyone. What a buzz kill.
I guess I assumed since the sentence was directed at Laertes, it was meant for someone specific, if not me then someone else.
I wished you well on carrying on the COTD. No buzz kill there.
Oh, the name Laertes. I don't know who Laertes is, but I heard the name mentioned in someone's stand up comedy gig and I got a kick out of it. so, being silly, I've been putting the name in some of my comments.
I hope that calling someone Laertes isn't an insult!
He killed Hamlet.
Oh dear. thanks!
