Making money is $till more honorable than killing people, pas?

He's a homophobe. PERIOD

But this is YOUR perception Fen. That is YOUR opinion. Why should any of us rely on YOUR opinion on such things?

I'm not here making a case for the KKK. But I am making a case for the freedom of speech. You simply cannot have it both ways. You are not the arbiter.

I'm not saying anyone should be silenced, Im just making a judgement call. TOTALLY my opinion, no one has to agree.

Eminem is probably a homophobe, but has gotten better about it in the last few years because as a celebrity, im sure he's faced with more positive stereotypes of gay men (maybe). If you've noticed, he's cooled it with a lot of that lately.

Oh, definitely. But still pretty far down on the honorableness scale.

And honestly, I can't blame the artists that a good number of their fans are idiots.

I beg to differ. Most of his fans are not idiots. You can't be an idiot and understand his songs. They take some thinking. They are intellectual and sophisticated (in an "urban" way, obviously) and they are not meant for idiots.

Just because someone doesn't deal with the world on your level doesn't make them an idiot.

You don't get an award for being just a titch less of a bigot than you were before.

You are more than welcome to make whatever judgement calls you wish. But your assertion that hip hop artists have a right to use certain words that others do not because of your perception that the end is artistic and, therefor, valid comes dangerously close to advocating censorship.

He's still a homophobe...therefore, he gets no respect from me. Hitler could paint, too, I hear.

Ever been to one of his concerts? I have.

It was largely teenagers who knew the songs that were on the radio and nothing else who sat around calling each other "faggot" all night. The same kind of spoiled upper middle class trash you'd seen on an MTV dating show or the LIRR on the weekend. If they were intellectual or sophisticated in any way, they hid it well.

Idiots. I hold to my statement.

Oh...so...because you 'get' him and his sophisticated, intellectual writings (thereby extending those adjectives to you) it's all good.

Sweet Jesus, how much more elitist can you sound?

"Hiphop's purpose is by definition more constructive as an artform than that of an organization fueled by hatred and desinged for destruction."

Either way, its deader than a doornail. I don't care how many Doritos commercials Missy Elliot does or how many Hip Hop Honors VH1 does, its a dead, dead, dead genre that hasn't produced a decent new artist since....well, Eminem.

Actually, its exactly the opposite of censorship. People should be able to say whatever they want.

But if you have advertisers and listeners, don't be surprised if you lose your commercial funding if you act like an ass for no good reason.

I have a GREAT picture that we took together on some set...

I can't post it because we are both doing something very rude, and I would get in trouble.

Borstalboy, that's not true at all. What a ridiculous statement. People have been saying hiphop is dead since it started.

If you're afraid of something, just say it. If you don't understand something, just admit it.

Don't denigrate it, that's childish.

I'd say that's indicative of two things:

1) where you live

and

2) who can afford to go to concerts and who can't

Believe me, I wouldn't look at a concert crowd near NYC to find Em's truest fans. Look in the streets or toward anyone who grew in the rough - that's were you'll find them.

I saw him when he was still a "warm up" act so to speak in 2000. He gave a pretty good performance, but not that many people there really knew him too much at that point (even though My Name is and all that was largely popular already). It wasn't that bad, but I would never have gone to see him 1+ more years after that. I'd be arrested for strangling some idiot kid next to me or something.

I simply do not understand how you can support Eminem's use of 'fag' or 'lez' and then rail against a certain poster here who ironically used anti-Muslim slurs to make a point.

I mean...I can tell you that the sophisticated intellectuals got what papa was saying.

Yawper

EXACTLY!

The people that Eminem is speaking to don't go to his concerts, they listen to his music, though.

So while the true idiots spend their middle class money on his concerts, Eminem can use that money to keep talking to the people that matter.

Who's the idiot here? Not Eminem, that's for sure.

Face it, Fen. Its running on bald tires. There just aren't any significant rappers coming out anymore. Its exhausted. Its over.

Keep talking...it's getting good.

"The people that Eminem is speaking to don't go to his concerts, they listen to his music, though."

That is such an erroneous statement. Check the Boxscores records. Plus, have you ever done a census at one of his concerts?
Where do you get these ideas from?

So the (South Jersey, not New York) douches who go to the concert can't understand that the homophobic language and undertones of his lyrics represent an experience and are not necessarily the views of the artist, but this vast, silent majority of fans who adore his music but can't shell out $40 for seats do?
