"I simply do not understand how you can support Eminem's use of 'fag' or 'lez' and then rail against a certain poster here who ironically used anti-Muslim slurs to make a point.

I mean...I can tell you that the sophisticated intellectuals got what papa was saying."

Thank you, Robbie. I'll be curious to see if Fen addresses this.

"The sophisticated, urban intellectuals that are his fans or the ones in the streets who grew up rough"

Don't assume they're different - money, or lack thereof, doesn't reflect personal worth or intelligence

Calvin, why you gotta pick on South Jersey, huh? re: Happy 35th Birthday, Eminem

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be enbered with your old nonsense. ~ Emerson

South Jersey will always leave a soft spot in my heart.

Or at least that's what the doctors told me after all that salt-water taffy.

Oh...I don't assume that they're different. But I think a certain someone might...no matter how they might protest.

And, frankly, I'm not sure what you mean exactly by this:

"I wouldn't look at a concert crowd near NYC to find Em's truest fans."

Because all concertgoers in NYC are white middle or upper class folk? Cause I can tell you, they're not. Not even close.

So...now...only people from Detroit...the people who actually LIVED that experience...can really get it?

What crap art that must be.

Ah, so we're talking about the people who are able to directly relate to his experiences in Detroit. While I agree they undoubtedly have a different level of appreciation for his music, they could hardly represent the majority of his fans, or else none of us would know who Eminem was. He'd be a local phenom, like South Park Mexican was to Houston.

Actually, non-Houstonians MIGHT have eventually known who South Park Mexican was were it not for that tricky underage girl situation, but that's another story.

Anyway, his music might not be intended for the masses who go to his concert. But you don't get to choose your fans. And, I'm pretty sure it is on some level, anyway.

So because I was raised in the south, I could get away with lyrics like "Darkie, darkie, stay out of the park, g"?

If anyone gets offended, they need to understand the Phyllis Rogers Stone is just a character I play, y'all.

I'm dating a Puerto Rican guy, so does that entitle me to write a song called "Spic and Span," about how I wish he'd be a little more tidy?

Can you not PM me anymore? Thanks in advance.

Eminem really doesn't care if he gets a pass from you or not - your not his primary audience ...

Who knew Eminem shared my birthday? I sure didn't.

Personally, I'm grateful I didn't need to work too hard to discredit these arguments. I have to pack for vacation!

Has this convo inspired you to take a last minute trip to Detroit to understand their plights?

I'm just trying to figure out who "you people" are.

Those who don't like Eminem?
New Yorkers?
Or just those of us who have respectfully been in disagreement here?

You people is da darkies
They hang out in the parkies
You see then from the sparkies
When they light they joints

I grew up down in Dixie
So do not try to fix me

Sorry, I double posted.

My lyrics are clever, right? That gives me a pass, right?

Phyllis is a character, yo! And the actor playing her really did time in the south!
