Love the books and am tollerent of the movies, I kinda keep them seperate or else I end up getting really mad at what they cut, especially with POA, which is my favorite book and they took out all my favorite parts (mostly dealing with the Marauders) Like how Lupin knows how to use the map, they never really say in the movies and if you haven't read the books you don't know that he's Moony...*sighs* oh well...
Anxiously awaiting the 7th book and theorizing like crazy with all the other anxious HP fans, I'm 24 and should be doing other things, but alas my mind wanders to HP when I'm bored...
Looking forward to and dreading at the same time movie 5...I'm anxious to see the pensieve scenes with the young Marauders, but I'm not so keen to watch the end of the movie, reading it in the books was bad enough, cry my eyes out and to this day can't read past when they enter the ministry...I had a friend who quit the series after book 5 because of what happened (i don't want to spoil it incase someone here hasn't read it...but if you've read it you most likely know what i'm talking about).
ETA Leaky Cauldron has the casting of most of the roles listed, including Luna, Tonks and Bellatrix check out http://www.leakynews.com and you'll see the casting on the front page :) Enjoy!

As usual I'm late to the party, but count me in as another obsessive fan. Currently I would rank the books as 5, 3, 6, 4, 1, 2, but I'm in the middle of rereading and need to give 6 a third chance.
I am also on the Leaky Cauldron daily. staticradar, I was just going to post that news, but you beat me to it. I was glad to see that Imelda Staunton was finally confirmed as Umbridge.

It's my queue. :)

Posted: 2/2/06 at 11:29amI love the books and movies, but I do think that the cuttings make the movies very different from the books. I was a huge Chronicles of Narnia fan growing up (I think I was 7 or 8 when I started reading them), so I was thrilled when, year's later, they made the film. I was in high school when Sorcerer's Stone came out, so I read the books and love them, but if I'd been a kid when they came out, I totally would have been one of those who gets dressed up in their cape and glasses to go get their book at midnight!

Yep, Tiff I caught the Kinglsey news on Leaky Cauldron on the 30th, and I don't even check everyday.
Don't feel bad about obsessing at 24 staticradar, I know at least 3 people in this thread are 27.
I also keep the books and movies totally seperate, but I rank the movies 3, 4, 1, 2. The 3rd movie was less like the book, but I love the style, it was the best "movie" all around. I also think Columbus is a hack who just filmed assorted scenes, and had no interest in the tone of the books, the first two films (more the second than the first since that is the one book that really is that way.) are just too "happy."

I'm such a huge HP fan it's not even funny. I did the midnight madness things for the last two book and movie releases, and went to the OotP and PoA releases in costume. Yeah, I'm a geek...
I like the movies. Really liked the last one, but hated PoA. It felt like Cuaron took the book, ran it through a shredder, tossed the pieces on the floor and spat on them for good measure. I felt that GoF was much more true to the book, and the spirit of the books in general. That's not to say that it was flawless, but I thought it was a huge improvement.

forgot to do my ranking...
3,4,6,5,1,2 I guess...I need to reread 5 sometime, I just can't get through it all because I know what happens at the end and everytime i approach it I approach with a heavy heart and just can't bring myself to go through that again...there are few books that drag me in so deeply to make me cry and the HP series has done that...also Philip Pullman's books do that for me as well...you just feel so deeply for these characters that when fate befalls them you can't help but get a little choked up.
I check Mugglenet and Leaky quite often, especially here at work when i've got a break or something, some of the few sites I can enter into under the blocks my works has set up...for instance i can only get to the west end board and the off topic board through the west end board it's odd the main board is blocked as Pornography...i don't get it haha

Natalia Teena has been confirmed as Tonks. Hmmm. I need to see About a Boy Again. She'll probabaly be great.
And Staunton as Umbridge is perfect. Yay!

Here's that Leaky Cauldron link, folks.

I'll have to re-watch About A Boy too - one of my favorite Hugh Grant movies! Who did Natalia play in it? (I'll look it up in a mo'.)
Strictly speaking about looks alone, the new Luna is not what I pictured her to look like.
Also, rumor is that HP7 will be released on 7/7/07, and the tentative HP5 movie release date is in June - and thus, I am planning my trip so we start in London when the movie comes out, and end in London when the book comes out. That's, like, the main reason we're going to Europe. Is that sad?

To me Luna looks great. Picture her with crazy hair and a more dazed look. There's just something about her face that is what I had pictured Luna to look like.
I think for the books my ranking is 5, 4, 3, 1, 6, 2. I haven't re-read HBP yet, so six could jump up after I've read it a second time.
In terms of the films, I'd probably say 3, 4, 1, 2. Of course, it's been the longest since I've seen two, so that could have an impact.
I do think they were very lucky that the kids have grown into good actors. They were so young when they started that I think look had a big part in their casting. They've just really been able to grow and develop the characters as the stories have grown and become darker.

I'm so out of the loop. I need to read the last two books ago.
And I can't remember Kingsley to save my life.
And yes, Jason Isaacs is extremely, um, do-able in Peter Pan. Almost as much as Jeremy is.

Oh yes. Harry Potter is one of my first (and longest-standing) obsessions. It feels like an entire era of my LIFE will be over when I finish Book 7.
The movies are fine... I wasn't crazy about the first two, although I liked Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire, but they just don't interest me that much. I liked that Cuaron managed to breathe some life and magic back into the filmmaking. The casting team defintely gets credit for FABULOUS casting of the adult parts. The kids I have mixed feelings about.
Favorites: 3, 6, 4 and 5, 2, 1.

I'm a Ron/Hermione or Hermione/Draco shipper. Oh, and a Neville/Ginny shipper. I really don't like Harry/Ginny.
Oh, and a Tom Riddle/Cedric shipper.
But I don't read the fanfic though.

YES to Ron/Hermione! I'm rooting for them =)
and I think Lupin and Tonks are so CUTE together. =)

Posted: 2/2/06 at 7:40pmI like Lupin and Tonks too - even though I think the "Ellie" from About A Boy is far too young to be David Thewlis's love interest.

Yeah, but Lupin and Tonks are supposed to have a fairly large age difference. Lupin kept telling Tonks that was one of the reasons he wanted to deny their love.
I am a Hermione/Ron shipper and Harry/Luna.
Haha, Tom Riddle is so hott, anything involving him!

shiksa! Who is that gorgeous man in your avatar, why does he look so familiar, and why am I so impressed by his bicep?
I'm a Snape and anybody shipper. I hope he turns out to be the misunderstood good guy. That was one of the best parts of book 6, was seeing a different side to him and Draco.
Oooh...a Snape/Lucius shipper...*drool*

Posted: 2/2/06 at 7:59pmI'm a Ron/Hermione and Ginny/Harry. I've read some of the fan fiction, but the decent ones are so few and far between I generally give up pretty quickly. Sometimes it's awfully fun to read the really crappy fan fic though, especially the R rated ones.
