Did it make you feel big and powerful and vindicated? And/or when you thought about it a little later did you feel at least a little bad for being a catalyst for reducing somebody's earnings?

As far as I know, I have never been the direct cause of somebody being fired. I know I may have indirectly contributed to an actor in a show being replaced once, and although he needed to be replaced, it's sort of nagged me for 10 years.

Have others here had experiences along those lines? If so, did you worry that the person you got fired figured out it was you and might want retribution?

I've had influence in getting someone fired, but I wasn't the direct cause. She would have TOTALLY been fired anyway. She was crazy. I just helped the people in charge see it sooner than later, that's all.

I got fired this way once. Granted, she was one of our HR managers - and I was a temp - but she quite literally went from loving me one day and having me begin the process of becoming a full-time employee to clamming up, accusing me of something which no one in the company, to this day, can say they know and got me fired a day later, never to return.
I don't hold any bitterness towards her because she's a very sad woman and she wrecked more people than just a lowly temporary employee looking for a job, but it was surely sh*tty at the time.

I think there's a difference between being the catalyst for getting someone fired and speaking up about something another person did that would make them get fired.

I spoke up about something a colleague did that was quite against the rules, and as a result, he was fired.

Have you ever kidded on a message board about having someone fired, and another poster, desperate to discredit you, took you seriously?

I don't know if this qualifies, but as a house manager, I guess I contributed to my assistant being fired. Aside from not doing his job on a daily basis, and making some pretty bad decisions, he simply didn't show up one whole week without calling and lied about where he was. My bosses fired him. And yes, I was very pleased when they did.

If this counts -- I worked for a business that got someone else fired.

See, there was this newspaper writer for the Houston Chronicle who was running an anonymous blog (this was before every Tom, Dick and Harry had his own blog) on the side. In this blog, he was commenting on his sources, the stories he wrote, his employers, etc. In other words, pretty big violations of journalism ethics.

At any rate, the identity of the blogger was leaked to the paper for which I worked, and we ran a story on it. It got him fired the next day.

I've done a few other news stories that got someone fired, but that's the one that sticks out the most.

I've fired people. They deserved it. I did not feel bad. I didn't feel special about it either though. Just needed to be done.

"Did you ever run into that person again?"

No, I didn't. Being that in the theater community, you almost always run into the same people all the time, I probably would have run into him. I have a feeling he returned to his home state.

I was working a waittable job and a guy I made friends with suddenly turned on me and told my boss and managers that I had blown a customer in the bathroom--not true, surprisingly. Anyways, the whole thing turned into something like a witch-hunt and yes, I eventually got fired for allegedly having oral sex in the bathroom with a customer. I have never seen the guy again, but oh when I do...

You'll meet some of the coolest people around when you work customer service, but you'll also meet some of the most vicious, sociopathic f**kheads ever!

I've known a number of over-privileged people... usually trust-fund babies who have never had to work for anyone in their lives. And if they did work for someone, it was usually a family member.

I've observed that they get a ego boasting hit(a hit they vehemently deny) when they have someone fired.

They appointment themselves police of the universe and justify their pathetic behavior with a "it just had to be done" attitude. When in fact the person fired may not have been the best at their job, but their livinghood didn't deserve to be cut off.

I have nothing but contempt for such people. They are usually self-absorbed and compassionless. They truly disgust me.

Oh and yes, it not long before I break off any association with them.

Be careful when firing someone that the remaining employess don't have YOU fired. Payback is a bitch.

In my senior year of high school, I was responsible for having my chemistry teacher fired. However, he was responsible for his actions, so I felt like the school did the right thing.

I won't go into specifics: let's just say that he wasn't the greatest at teaching, was generally hated, and the final straw was lashing out in class frustrations of his personal life. When he was told he was fired, he came into the classroom, tore up some papers and shouted a lot, then left.

Apparently, the next year, he was allowed to come back? Perhaps he got anger management? Whatever the case, I was told he was teaching again the next year after I had graduated. Then the year after that, he died of a heart attack during the school year.

I feel sorry for the guy. But I don't think he had any business teaching.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

'Then the year after that, he died of a heart attack during the school year.'

Poor Mr. Carp.

I've actually had to fire people from productions, which is never pleasant. I always try to end the relationship according to Carrie Bradshaw's dictates: with respect and an acknowledement for what was there.

I've never had anyone fired because I thought I received bad or shoddy service. That's just tacky.

And I dug right down to the bottom of my soul and cried

I fired one person. I hated it. But he also was uncooperative, disrespectful, and got violent. Once. That's when he got fired. And that's when I decided I didn't want to be a manager again.

I never have personally fired someone, but I was the main reason a director was fired at a job of mine. The person was irresponsbile and ruining a project we were all working on. I tried to be a team player, but it was taken too far. I tried speaking in the proper order "chain of management" but they weren't really listening. I then found out that the CEO was being told that this person was amazing and handling the whole project (meanwhile it was me working 10 - 12 hour days on it). So I went and told the CEO the whole story, next thing I know the former director was packing his box.
